I enjoyed it and liked the few wrinkles they threw into the plot so it didn't feel like a rehash of something I was expecting. The only complaints I've seen about Justice Society are the animation and why a couple of big-time JSA members like Green Lantern are MIA.

Loved the relationship between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, handled so much better than most modern adaptations.

As promised, here's my review of Justice Society: World War II.

I think you were overly generous reviewing the video. Superman: Man of Tomorrow looked better on UHD and utilized the HDR more often.

Hmmm...yeah, re-reading my Man of Tomorrow review, I may have overscored Justice Society a bit. I was more impressed with Man of Tomorrow's HDR at the time than I remembered. I might make some tweaks. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond!

Part one of The Long Halloween isn’t even out yet, but the trailer for part two already released today.

Still not sure about this adaptation. I want to like it, but I’m not loving what I’m seeing. I don’t really like the animation style or a lot of the voice acting.

They've announced they are turning Injustice into an animated movie.

That could be interesting. The storyline in the games is pretty good.

And the expanded storyline in the comics is actually amazing.

I am actually really really surprised they haven't done Kingdom Come yet.

I’ve actually never read the Injustice comics, but I’ve heard they’re good as well.

The Long Halloween Part 1 is out today. Wish that the Steelbook was at Target instead of Best Buy. Forgot to order it and kind of want to grab it today.

Readers of the graphic novel should expect to see a few changes. I liked this adaptation a great deal but it's not 100% faithful to the source material. I consider The Long Halloween by far the best Batman story ever written.

I'm gonna just hold out for the 4k combined release.

I was at Target earlier and browsing around the movie section. Noticed that the A Death in the Family was only $9.99, and so on a whim I decided to grab it. Just watched it and meh. Not bad, but it could have been way better.

I’m not quite sure why instead of adapting the full storyline the filmmakers essentially went right to the part where Jason is captured by the Joker. I mean there’s a tiny bit of buildup but it isn’t much.

The interactive aspect was kind of cool I guess. I liked seeing how the different scenarios played out, but it was kind of gimmicky too. Also it felt lazy that there was a lot of re-used material from Under the Red Hood, which one of the better DC animated films, but still.

Overall it was just alright. Definitely glad that I didn't pick it up when it was full price.

I’ve pretty much given up on buying these DC animated straight to video movies. While some are good, most of them are at best one time only watches. I’ll just catch them when they hit HBO Max or a cheap Red Box DVD rental. Just not worth the premium money.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I think A Death In The Family was an experiment to see if physical media sales could be improved. The streaming version has no interactivity and I believe only has the primary narrative, so you have to get the Blu-ray if you want to go through the various story choices.

Mike86 07-06-21 04:25 PM

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I’m sure the idea was partially to be like the original comic where readers chose Jason’s fate. It’s not a bad idea, but I just feel like they really under served the storyline.

They basically did a small fragment of A Death in the Family, and re-used a bunch of existing elements from Under the Red Hood. Just a weird choice. Feels really lazily done.

At $10 I’m not too upset over this release, but had I paid the normal release price of around $20 it would have been irritating.

The Long Halloween was ok. Both parts same thing. More Batman not finding any clues. Most of action happens without Batman and ultimately it was really just about 1 person. Harvey “Two Face” Dent. Played well by Duhamel, who I’ve always liked. Not so much Ackles. But this must have been Naya Rivera’s last role. That’s sad, but she was good as Catwoman. Overall all bot bad, but far from best DC animated or even Batman tale in these animated films. The Justice League dark movies are good. Except for Wonder Woman’s, probably my favs.

I still need to pick up and watch both parts of The Long Halloween. Reviews for part one were pretty positive, and it’s one of the best Batman comic arcs.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I thought Long Halloween Part 1 was nearly great despite a few changes from the graphic novel. I wasn't as impressed with Part 2, which felt rushed because they left major chunks of plot for the back half. WB should have made the Long Halloween with another hour of screen time. It's a story better suited for long-form serialized drama than a single movie.

it did seem to jump really quick. And didn’t realize we would see rogue’s gallery. I liked that. But all at once and like out of nowhere. As I said, both together it was an ok some Batman cameos ;) good action, almost none to do with Bats himself. Even got more from Catwoman. Batman seemed like a clueless 2nd character. I must have missed something. But the bad guy action was good and Dent was good character. And, had to be since mostly about him.

Not sure if I’ll bother picking up the Blu-ray release of Superman: The Animated Series. I really never watched it as much as the other DCAU shows. Plus I have it on DVD and haven’t touched it. If anything I would be more inclined to watch it on HBO Max.

Catwoman: Hunted Anime Film Announced

- August 17, 2021 03:02 pm EDT Catwoman is one of the best femme fatales ever created by DC Comics, and the vixen has taken on plenty of roles in her time. Now, it seems Selina Kyle is ready to tackle a new era with help from Warner Bros. Animation. After all, a new film is gunning for the thief, and it turns out Catwoman: Hunted will bring Selina into the world of anime.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Catwoman: Hunted is the next movie on Warner Bros. Animation's docket. The film is being done by the studio alongside DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. And while little is known about the film's specifics, it will star Catwoman as well as Batwoman.

As for who will play Catwoman, the job belongs to Elizabeth Gillies. Batwoman will be voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn 99 fame. A slew of other stars have been cast for the film as well, so you can read up on the full list below:

Jonathan Banks as Black Mask, Steve Blum as Solomon Grundy, Lauren Cohan as Julia Pennyworth, Keith David as Tobias Whale, Zehra Fazal as Talia al Ghul & Nosferata, Jonathan Frakes as King Faraday & Boss Moxie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Kelly Hu as Cheshire, Andrew Kishino as Mr. Yakuza & Domino 6, Eric Lopez as Domino 1, Jacqueline Obradors as La Dama, and Ron Yuan as Doctor Tzin.

As for its anime cred, Catwoman: Hunted is being directed by Shinsuke Terasawa. The artist-director has a long history with the anime industry given his work on dozens of high-profile series. From Akirato Gintama and Mobile Suit Gundam, Terasawa has worked on a ton of TV series and films in his time. So if you were worried about this Western anime, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

At this point, no release window has been shared for Catwoman: Hunted, but fans hope to see it go live soon. The film will follow Selina as the thief goes from being a predator to the prey when a mysterious threat comes her way. Catwoman must ride out her heist as villains and authorities come after her, and that doesn't even mention Batwoman's lead on the theft!

Are you excited about this Catwomananime? Which other DC heroes need this sort of treatment? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or hit me up on Twitter @MeganPetersCB.
Sounds kind of interesting to me. Kind of a nice change to get a film starring a villain in the main role, and not having to feature Batman (though I guess Batwoman is being substituted instead).
