Re: DC Animated Universe Films

As a tribute to Jack Kirby on his birthday, I decided to watch Apokolips Now, the 2 part episode of Superman the Animated Series, on HBOMax. During the original broadcast of part 2, Turpin’s funeral, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini decided to put Stan Lee as well as some Marvel characters, including Nick Fury, in the background as a tribute to Kirby. After that initial airing, Stan and the Marvel characters were taken out and replaced with random people. This replacement scene was also put in the DVD, so the only way to watch the original scene was on YouTube on shitty taped uploads. Well, HBOMAX uploaded Part 2 as it originally aired, including the original Turpin funeral. I now wonder if the Blu-ray set will include the original version or if they are just redoing the DVD release with a better transfer.

HBO MAX has been doing their own transfers for many of the cartoons they carry. Their team hasn't earned great marks from cartoon fans for the most part. My guess is the team handling those episodes had no idea about the replacement scene, so it's a mistake which may get rectified once someone brings it up.

I hope they keep the episode as it originally aired. The only other thing I noticed was that the dialogue for the episodes is really low.

‘Catwoman: Hunted’ Sets Voice Cast (Exclusive)

https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/imag...30984143_1.jpg

Catwoman is going from hunter to the hunted in a new animated film. Catwoman: Hunted will voice-star Elizabeth Gillies as Catwoman, who joins a slew of DC characters for the animated film produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Hunted, which is produced in an anime style, picks up with Catwoman as she attempts to steal a priceless jewel. The heist puts her squarely in the crosshairs of both a powerful consortium of villains and the ever-resourceful Interpol as well as Batwoman, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz.

Love Beatriz, in front of camera and voice acting. Never heard of Gillies.

This is Liz Gillies. She's the lead of Dynasty on The CW. Gorgeous singer and actress. I like her voice. I think she will be good in the role. I know pretty much no one here watches Dynasty, but she's amazing on that series.

The voice is what counts here, but def cute.

She’s one of the actresses from Victorious on Nickelodeon. Gillies married the producer of the show who’s 20 years older than her and the rumors is that they were dating when she was underage

Trailer for Injustice. Looks okay. I dig the games, and am interested in seeing the film adaptation.

It looked good, but what exactly is story? I thought just a MK like fighting game with these superheroes and villains.

Yeah, and it’s not like they could ever make a movie based on those games.

sure, they made MK movies, were they any good? I don’t think so. And Injustice has much bigger names, iconic than any single character in MK series.

Trailer pretty much gives the story. Joker kills Lois Lane, her unborn baby and the entire staff of the Daily Planet. Superman loses it and kills Joker. From there, he crosses the line and becomes a totalitarian dictator. He assembles a team of heroes who either by fear or agreement, side with him and Batman assembles a team to stop Superman and his allies. Basically, DC's version of Civil War.

That sounds really good and bloody! Thanks RH.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

That seems like an excessive overreaction by Superman when he could have just circled the earth a few dozen times, reversed the earth's rotation, rewound time and made Lois alive again.

Well, technically Joker doesn't kill them...

I wonder how they'll portray WW, because Injustice universe WW is pretty bad.

Besides Long Halloween 1 & 2, which I didn’t care for, these DC animated of late have been real good. Between them and couple Mortal Kombat, DC and WB rolling…

PhantomStranger 10-17-21 03:11 PM

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I thought the first Long Halloween part was more satisfying than part 2. That's a graphic novel which would have worked better with each issue getting its own episode over one season.

I just watched Injustice. Not good, probably one of the worst of the DC DTV movies. Way too much packed into the usual 74min runtime.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

The new animated adaptation of Injustice seems to be near-universally-disliked, but I'm the outlier giving it a positive review anyway. My feelings won't be hurt if you tell me how off-base I am.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I didn’t hate it. Thought it wasn’t bad, not great, but better than earlier DC animated.

Long Halloween 1 & 2 were awesome. Not as good as the book, but much better than some of the animated films.
