Nothing better is coming as a mass market product, I can assure you. Hollywood is already planning for low-quality streams as the main product they will sell to Americans. This is akin to the music industry, which went from selling superior-sounding CDs to lower quality MP3s. The consumer market accepted it very quickly without much hesitation.

This I believe wholeheartedly. And it also breaks my heart.

Not to worry. For some reason studios have no problem catering to the European and Japanese markets, so long as their buying habits don't change there will always be expensive importing as an option.

Not that much more, especially if you wait a few months after release. I've bought a lot of region free titles for $7.99-$18.99 shipped.

It's cheaper buying CDs from UK websites, since, relatively, more people still buy physical media, so there's actual competition for physical media and CDs are cheaper there than they are on amazon, which rarely, if ever, offers discounts on CDs. It'll be the same with blu-rays soon enough.

If you're getting good deals and have the cash to burn, don't worry about it.

Might want to dial it back a bit, then. But I'm in favor of enjoying your hobby and not feeling guilty about it as long as you aren't putting yourself in debt.

Yep, and this is why I have no remorse about my collection. I am at this point very selective about what I get on physical media, especially since the studios still like to hold back on extras for later editions sometimes, but as far as I'm concerned, my collection is of archival quality for a non-professional. It will likely be many many years before I get a 4K TV, and I think the amount of high quality 4K content available even at that point will be slim. Streaming has proven that people want convenience over quality, and so there's going to be little incentive for studios to remaster films in 4K, or for people to tax their internet connections (and risk hitting/exceeding data caps) to download them. The sales of Blu-ray prove that a physical 4K format wouldn't even make back their R&D, meaning that Blu-ray is the last mass market physical format we're ever likely to see.

I'm not buying too many more movies these days, I have most of the classics I want and there are very few new movies I feel compelled to own, but I'm sure one day there will be a fire sale on Blu-rays like there were on HD DVDs, and I'll gobble up a ton at that point.

Re: Are you getting Blu-ray remorse?

The only thing that makes me sad about BD is how so many cult or hard to find movies are getting minor, little known, small batch releases and are either out of print by the time you find out about them or are 30 bucks a pop.

It makes blind buying near impossible and no place rents or streams a lot of these movies (thinking of Code Red, Arrow, Synapse, some Shout Factory, etc.). Netflix's disc variety has gone down the tubes and they don't buy any of these kind of releases and there is no other way to rent or see these movies. I would love to see them but don't necessarily want to purchase them.

So that's my only BD remorse I guess.

Re: Are you getting Blu-ray remorse?

I had DVD remorse which means my Blu buying is much more selective, so I don't really have Blu remorse.

How did they sneak into my house and film it without my permission?

Re: Are you getting Blu-ray remorse?

I wish I had the money and space to have a collection like his but to have over 15,000 movies and only have watched 200 of them is pathetic.
