Oh well, no free Blu-rays for me. At least I got to the bottom of this, though.

Amazon just lowered their price to $19 so I ordered mine. I have the Original SD, so we'll see how this BD compares. I usually don't double dip, but this maybe one of those times.

Price on the limited edition has plummeted down to $50.11 on Amazon at the moment.
Dammit.

There has to be an abundance of overstock at this point. The initial pressing wasn't even 5,000 unique units - a good chunk of people were buying multiple copies to flip on eBay. Looks like that back fired. I'm sure this will go down even more than this either on its own or as a Shout Outlet deal.

This is absolutely bait-and-switch. Given the exorbitantly high price of the Blu-ray, its limited collectible status was its main selling point. Now, after selling through as many copies as the studio originally planned, that has gone completely away. 10,000 copies is not a "limited edition" for a catalog title on Blu-ray. That's about 10x more copies than most catalog titles on the format ever sell. And if Shout Factory does manage to hit the 10,000 ceiling, they've already set a precedent that they can just license and press more copies. You can't have a "limited edition" if the limit keeps getting raised anytime you approach it.
I pre-ordered the LE on Amazon. I never had any plans to scalp it. But I debated whether I actually thought it was worth the price asked. Under normal circumstances, I would wait for a price drop. However, I finally bit the bullet when it looked like it was on the verge of selling out. I didn't want to miss my opportunity to get it.
As it turns out, there was never any risk of that happening. Shout Factory lied about how many copies would be made available. It's highly unlikely that the disc will sell out at the new limit (if there even is a limit at all), and an eventual price drop seems inevitable.

If anyone is interested in checking out the director's cut before dropping $50+ it's currently available on Netflix streaming.

I saw this film in the theater when it first came out and it did always seem like something was missing. I didn't care for it then. I almost bought the DC as it seems like it would have made it better but; I am soooooooooooooo glad I didn't. I watched the DC on Netflix and to me it is still a terrible movie. However if they did something like this for a film I really love I would be all over it as well for the $50+.
