Short of Fox publicly disclosing such figures, the only individuals who would know them for sure are the bean counters in the CFO's office and possibly some other C-level suite executives at Fox. So far they are tight lipped on this.

(With that being said).

If you're willing wade through older posts on this thread, awhile back I went through some figures from various semi-unreliable sources online which were easily available. From that analysis, I got the impression Fox may be looking for sales figures of 10,000+ copies for a new bluray release within the first month or so. Otherwise if they don't believe a title can move more than 10,000 copies on bluray within the first month or so, then they won't release it themselves.

For the other guys (ie. Sony, Paramount, Universal, Warner, etc ...), the same analysis suggests they'll only release a new bluray title if they think it will sell more than 5,000-10,000 copies within the first month or so.

In the case of Warner tv on bluray sets, I'm guessing Warner is looking to move at least 5,000 copies within the first month or so. (Dunno about Warner Archive).

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?

A couple of things. It's possible Fox doesn't view the DVDs as threatening their HD syndication numbers in the same way a Blu-ray set would.

The second factor is retail. Shelf space for Blu-ray television has practically disappeared outside very popular HBO releases. If Walmart passes on carrying a product, a studio may just cancel it.

Retail availability still drives online sales for mainstream, mass-market titles. Most normal people aren't obsessively checking studio release schedules. When they see a set available in stores, they'll go home and order from Amazon.

Otherwise, I don't have many local family/friends/acquaintances who have bluray players at home.
I thought you were going to say that the only reason he watches them is because you put them in the tray for him.

I lent a friend a BD copy of Chuck and had to remind them that they could play it on their XB1 console.

...after they go online and download the free Blu-ray player app from the store. Blu-ray/DVD playback isn't even built-in.

Why would you expect a blu-ray when the episodes weren't even produced in HD until season 20?

Same reason we received Blu-rays of seasons thirteen through seventeen? They aren't in HD granted but still look good.

They definitely look like HD masters- though I'll admit to just checking out parts of season 13 and not having watched all of them yet. Turns out the seasons on Vudu are CROPPED BTW, and extra bonus if you got the SD seasons earlier they've now been upgraded to the cropped versions gratis!

Are the Simpsons Seasons 1-19 marked as SD still cropped on Vudu?

Re: Why aren't new TV show releases coming on Blu-Ray?

Well, now that 30 Rock is leaving Netflix, there's no place to stream the show and it's not available on Blu-ray (or a non-$90 complete series DVD set).

Hmmm .....

24:Legacy spinoff going dvd-only, and offically no bluray.

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/24-Lega...-Release/23688

Only reason I can see Fox doing this, is if the 24: Live Another Day bluray had abysmal sales.

Also no word on a bluray for season 1 of The Orville.

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Orville-Season-1/23689

Not even an amazon placeholder for a hypothetical bluray version.

I would have thought The Orville would be a good candidate for a season 1 bluray release.

Legacy is being released BD in the UK... if you have a region free player. https://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/24-leg.../11429296.html

Not sure what it is with TV shows not being on blu-ray in the US.

These are Fox shows, who now prefer DVD-R to anything else. Getting actual pressed discs is fortunate, but just because they put up placeholders on Amazon isn't a guarantee imo that they're even coming. APB and The Americans have been up for many months, for example, but there's not yet any indication they'll actually get released.

WB did put out the first season of Lethal Weapon this past month:

The set is mostly barebones.

Surprising Seinfeld isn't on blu-ray or digital. Isn't it just as popular as Friends?

Who would buy it? This is 2017 and it's on Hulu and on numerous times of the day. Let's just be real, is it going to be a big seller? Who would carry it when retailers hardly carry stock as-is? My Costco just reduced to to Beauty and The Beast and the 3 Lion Kings. That's it. They stopped carrying catalog DVD/TV/Blu-ray in the past few weeks. I think the time to sell catalog on Blu-ray is long gone.

Which is why shows like Miami Vice and Friday Night Lights are being put on blu. And as Gizmo said a while back - that will NEVER happen.

I think it was already reported somewhere Seinfeld is coming to blu, although I don’t recall what site reported it. If/when it does, I’ll pick it up when the price is right. I’m sure others will as well. Sure, it won’t make new release sales, but neither did shows like Star Trek, ST:TNG, X-Files, etc, yet they still took time to remaster it and release it on blu.

Miami Vice and FNL were put out as bargain bin titles by Mill Creek which licenses movies and shows incredibly cheap. Both had minimal (if any) work done to them. You and I both know the difference between Miami Vice and Seinfeld is pretty big. Do you think Mill Creek will get Seinfeld?

Senfeld has been rumored since the format war days. It's Sony...good luck. Maybe its a good 'ol Bill Hunt rumor. I hear True Lies is ANY DAY NOW.

I think his new thing is that whatever title you're asking about is "quietly being prepared".

Wasn’t Hunt, but bottom line is they got released, which is more than as you said, these never being released. Seinfeld got remastered for broadcast, so it very well may be released on blu. Time will tell indeed.

Re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?

Unlike Friends, Seinfeld wasn't shot protected for 16:9, and they most likely don't want to put out a 4:3 HD blu-ray of it.

Honestly, the upscaled DVDs look more than fine - it's not like the show is some visual wonder.

I can live with the DVDs. Honestly, if it did come out on blu-ray I wouldn't upgrade unless it was dirt cheap.

The thing with these tv shows is that they comprise, frequently, dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of content. They're not things I'm going to watch frequently, so it's not a priority top upgrade. I think the only tv shows I've upgraded from DVD to blu are Star Trek TOS (new masters, new fx), X-Files (cheap), and Firefly (cheap, single season).

The way the market is headed, they might in five years.

I suppose that Seinfeld is sort of in a perfect storm of Sony not giving two shits about blu-ray and Seinfeld being popular enough that a bargain or boutique label couldn't afford it.

Well, The Abyss and True Lies will eventually come out some day. I mean, they recorded a commentary 5 years ago so I think he’s been banking on it for a while.

The format they fucking INVENTED- and before it was even on the market I had predicted that they would screw it up/stop caring about it!
