The Fly BR (1958)

Can anyone tell me if this version of The Fly is region A or not? It's the one coming up as the main BR of the movie, but Amazon has a big notice that it's Region 26070 encoding with the note that it will not play in US or Canada. Yet, when you go to the details, it says it's region A, which IS US and Canada.

Thanks!

I wouldn't listen to Amazon. I have never heard of a "Region 26070". The blu-ray is region free.

It's presumably a Blu-Ray region from the Delta Quadrant.

Well, I tried Amazon but they were pretty clueless-they say they're double checking but I'm not holding my breath.

manicsounds-thanks for the info. Just curious, do you have this yourself? Is it a good transfer?

Amazon's info database has a lot of weird, wrong codings for a number of Blu-rays. The original Fly released by Fox in your link is actually region-free.

speaking of this bluray - I find that the directionalized dialogue to sound waaay off, even when I change my Yamaha receiver to Pro-logic mode the DTS-HD Master Audio 4.0 sounds worse.

Is 4.0 an approximation of old-style surround sound? A way of separating multi-track stereo? What is it, exactly?

Many older films were recorded in 4-track stereo. It does not take much work to convert those original soundtracks to a 4.0 surround mix for modern home video.

Re: The Fly BR (1958)

my understanding is that 4-track stereo was left-center-right-mono surround
