I guess the BD release makes sense with the show going HD and all. That said, I abandoned my Simpsons DVD collection after season 5 or so (when the plastic head packaging came into existence). Never looked back. This show is so long-running it will take a bookshelf alone just to store the entire run!

Excellent news. I enjoy 'em all, and will definitely add this in with the rest of 'em.

Weird that they are releasing this now when they have 8 more to go...

More sales potential in releasing newer seasons sooner.

I stopped with season 10. Saw no reason to continue buying season sets when I don't even have time to watch the ones I already have.

I chuckle to myself if they really think season 20 is worth that much.

I remember on the first season dvd Matt Groening said in the jacket how once you get through buying all the sets a new format will be around having to rebuy your collection again

Interesting how on the spine for the Blu-ray version, it says 'Complete' but only 'Twentieth' on the regular DVD version. I like that they have the 'old school' Homer and Marge on the spine as well.

It's says that only confirmed extra is a single featurette... I really hope FOX doesn't start to drop the ball with these releases...

Exactly when I stopped. I figure I have the "golden age" of the series, and with no end in sight, don't need to be a completest here.

I pick the seasons now when they're on sale. I've got plenty of other discs to watch rather than buy when they're first released. But the completist in me will probably keep buying the seasons.

According to the tvshowsondvd.com story, the BD release will be in widescreen HD, but the whole season was not in widescreen, only from episode 10 on....will the first nine episodes be pillarboxed? They really should make this clear, as they better not be cropping any 4:3 OAR episodes.....

Tvshowsondvd posted the press release. Looks like the set is more or less barebones... I'm very disappointed in FOX.

Oh, well. One more reason to save my money!

Worse yet, the press release indicates that the whole season will be 4:3, even on BD, which is ludicrous....only the first nine episodes were in 4:3, as they started producing them in 16:9 HD with episode 10....the way the episodes breakdown on the discs, Disc 1 SHOULD be 4:3, and Disc 2 SHOULD be 16:9....

Total pass. I catch maybe 3-4 episodes a Season now but not enough to warrant a purchase.

I'm getting this, but i expect that the press release is incorrect.

I'll wait for the reviews first saying if the OAR is correct on the hd episodes.

I would think they'd HAVE to be in 16:9. Otherwise it would make no sense for this to be the first BD release and for them to be hyping hd. Fingers crossed.

I'll just wait until I see some reviews. The chance of the wrong OAR and the lack of extras leaves me indifferent about this particular season set.

It looks like the OAR is correct, 1.33:1 for the first half of the season, then 16x9 HD for the later part. Good news and I'll probably get it now.

Thanks for pointing that out, I just had a look myself....looks like I will be picking this up then! Had me worried there for a little bit, but I figured Fox wouldn't screw it up....

I can wait for the re-release with proper extras.
