Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

One could hope that separate cases could lead to separate releases. I imagine I'm one of a huge group that will not buy that big box because I have no interest in the stinkers (Resurrection and the Zombie's) and already own I-III on the recently released BD sets.

Shout Factory just posted this. Looks like each movie is in it's own keep case. No sleeves.
Love the black cases. The only other release I've seen like that is The Wolverine.

I hope there's a good BF sale on this set.

Didn't read all the text but that screenshot looks great. The bootleg shot is about what I remember my VHS copy looking like.

Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

So what's the story behind John Ottman's unused score for H20? I keep seeing people on BD.com going nuts about it and it not being an option but haven't seen exactly why it was changed or why people want it.

I am looking forward to this. I spent almost 60 bucks (after snacks) for the family and I just to go to the IMAX showing of Guardians of the Galaxy. Spending double that for all of the above doesn't bother me at all.

That's a big improvement over the bootleg cut, but is anybody else seeing major edge enhancement on the new cap?

Here's a great article(go to page 26) on the whole thing. Basically Ottman wrote a big orchestral score that paid homage to Carpenter's score from the original movie. The Weinsteins didn't like it and brought in Marco Beltrami to make it the movie sound more like Scream, because that was the popular movie of the time.

Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

Also here's a comparison of the two scores from one scene of the movie:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/dw7HoBHoZ7U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I would love to see a version featuring the John Ottman score, the Carpenter theme is so iconic, it just doesn't feel like Halloween when you're hearing the Scream score instead. Depending on how far they got in the mixing process, it might just be too much work to go back and mix the score and edit the cues into the movie.

It almost feels like Shout Factory listened to the initial fan complaints, and decided to add more stuff (the Ottoman score)

I'm still on the lookout for one of the Shout Factory lithographs. If you're getting one and interested in selling, please PM me!

I don't think anything was added, they just accidentally left some things off of the initial press release. When fans on Facebook asked them about certain supplements that were on previous releases, such as the Tom Atkins commentary, Shout Factory quickly responded that those features would be included, they were just mistakenly left off of the press release. You'll notice that Halloween H20 just features a few scenes with the original John Ottman Score, not a fully restored score added to the entire movie. This is a feature that Shout Factory said would be on the boxset after they were criticized for not including the entire score.

Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

Well, I decided to go all out and go ahead and pick up a copy of the Canadian Alliance double-feature of the theatrical cuts of the two Zombie films since they aren't being included. Not a huge fan of these revisions but it will be interesting to compare. Going to keep my Universal copy of Halloween II since supposedly it has a different transfer and it also has "Terror In The Aisles" which I loved as a teen. I am getting rid of the few other copies of the flicks I already have in this boxset since everything appears to be duplicated. I also picked up a used copy of "25 Years Of Terror" since it is not being included and a BD copy doesn't appear to be on the horizon. Always meant to buy it but never did.

The only thing I didn't see included on Shout's extras list that is on the original release of Halloween there is a bonus feature called "Fast Film Facts." Anyone know if that is being included and they just forgot to mention it? Since it doesn't appear they are striking new discs for that release, I would assume it would be included. I believe I watched it once before with these and while interesting, they did not appear essential but I was just curious.

You think he's joking.

You can find mentally challenged internet posters on any forum, including this one. It's the "off your meds?" moments that separate DVDtalk from Blu-ray.com.
