Look at the back cover: It says "STANDARD VERSION" Modified to fit your screen.

Same report on a reviewer on Amazon.

Sounds great. The haters can buy this version!

That's pretty funny since most people's screens are 16x9 these days. You'd think since they changed artwork they could at least change this line of text.

From the review, I found this interesting:
That's the saddest part, all of these changes are being sanctioned by the directors of these films!

I have a B&N giftcard, I'm thinking of picking up this and Wages of Fear and making it a double bill.

Anyway, some videos of it to gauge said colors.

I love Wages of Fear but goddamn does that ending just kill me. It should have ended when Mario hit the ground. I get the ending but... It doesn't jive with what I saw before it.

I ended up keeping the preorder for Sorcerer. Still too high of a price but... I fucking love it and it finally got some BD love.

I suppose I'm just not used to the "frontier" nature of this forum. Don't mind me.

I am green teal with envy.

This isn't available in any local stores. Not a damn one. I was hoping I wouldn't have to order from amazon...

EVEN WORSE: They all have copies of the DVD, which isn't even remastered. What in the actual fuck, Canada.

And for those that want to stick with the new-old DVD version, because it presents whatever you think it does - Bill has commented on that via his Twitter account:

the DVD of Sorcerer is the same
Old piece of garbage. Only the blu ray is authentic.
Anyways, here's his feed as he comments on the DVD version.

https://twitter.com/WilliamFriedkin

He only authorized the Blu-ray through WB.

Not just Canada, I can't seem to find it at any store here in California either. Seems part for the course on catalog titles these days.

Uh, why not just order it from Amazon? In fact why didn't some of you pre-order it from Amazon? It's $23.78 now, but it could have been gotten for a couple of dollars cheaper had you pre-ordered.

Don't worry, us wild frontier natives won't conform to your "pass the Grey Poupon" nature any time soon. They will be naming sports teams after us someday.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is the same Bill that gave us the pile of shit French Connection release. Believing Bill is like believing everything Jabba Chin Lucas says.

This release didn't get the teal wash, but the colors are definitely torqued.

I will now. I just assumed I'd be able to find it in a store, being that it is a WB title, and I hadn't had too much trouble finding catalog titles at retail from them before.

Yeah, same for me. I saw it listed on hmv.ca, (and cheaper than amazon.ca), so I figured one of their 7 or 8 local stores would have it today. NOPE! But they all got the new DVD in stock (1 or 2 copies at most, but still...).

Yep. I got mine today and the colors really pop. I don't mind that - particularly in these modern times of washed-out and muted colors.

No, there is no teal push. Everything looks as it should - with elevated color levels. That should be able to be tamed, if you feel it's necessary, by turning down your color level.

I liked the sound mix and the opening up of the frame to 1.78:1. It gives the film a bit more breathing room and opens up the locations, which are a very important part of this movie.

I'm assuming it has one star cuz it's at least a damn good movie?

Question: did WB give that crap menu design they've been doing with the little symbols and etc.

As far as I know, Amazon doesn't allow 0-star reviews.

Re: William Friedkin's Sorcerer - April 22

Picked up the only copy of Sorcerer in San Jose this morning. Our local Rasputin's had ONE copy. Not surprisingly no one else had it, so I reserved it, got it for 19.99 and swiftly cancelled my pre-order.

About to watch it right now.

Re: William Friedkin's Sorcerer - April 22

So this was wow. Colors popped and the widescreen really brought this home. Highly recommended and this is coming from someone who saw it multiple times during it"s original release and several times on home video and the dreaded pan and scan dvd.

It's not perfect, but it's damn close .The film looks fabulous and sounds perfect. The wait was indeed worth it.
