According to new data released by Home Media Research, for the week ended March 22, 2014, sales of Blu-ray discs generated $101.98 million, which is 42.2% of total disc sales revenue. The total number of Blu-ray units sold during the period was 5.21 million, amounting to 31.3% of total disc unit sales.

The impressive numbers for physical media, and Blu-ray in particular, were driven by the Oscar winning animated film Frozen. According to Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, first-day sales of Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee's film on Blu-ray and DVDs reached 3.2 million units. Amazon also announced that Frozen became its best-selling kids' movie of all time on Blu-ray and DVD.

According to Home Media Magazine, the overall tally represents only the 10th time Blu-ray revenue has crossed $100 million in a single week, and the first time it has done so without the boost of a holiday shopping season.

no title anywhere on the steelbook.. The spine is horrible. I'm glad I didn't drop 40$ on this one. My amaray 3d version should be here soon, I hope!

No kidding, I like this steelbook more because the title and DISNEY name isn't plastered everywhere. I don't need the name on the spine to know what movie it is.

I agree.

and I like the small pictures of Olaf and Sven on the spine - just in case you forget which steel you are looking at.

Disney has been doing that to a bunch of Steelbooks lately. The assumption is that they leave the artwork text-free so that they can issue the exact same Steelbook in multiple countries. The text and title are only printed on the cardboard backer that wraps around the case underneath the shrinkwrap.

The cover I don't mind as much.. but it looks like it was designed to have a title on the spine, then they removed it. boo..

We just got our 3d/2d copy from amazon.uk.. My daughter is already on her third watching.

Fantastic movie. Gorgeous in 3D. Not the best I've seen but gorgeous nonetheless.

I feel the reverse to an extent. The 3D was fantastic (although Desolation of Smaug has it beat) and demo worthy but the movie itself is not all that great. I had fun but it all felt like spare parts from other aborted projects. Even the songs lacked cohesion (wth themselves and with the score).

Some evidence that there will probably be a double dip at some point. ABC is airing a new 1 hour Making of special on September 2nd. This was not on the current DVD/BD.

While I agree there is very little, to no chance there will not be a double-dip at some point, I don't see that special as anything beyond trying to hype the crossover in the OUAT series. And while they may put the special on the double-dip, often Disney just dumps these things never to be see again. It's amazing just how many features are missing off very high profile titles.

I borrowed this from the library to watch (three times in one week) and I've been itching to view it again. I'm going to be pissed if they don't come out with a mega edition. Disney, I'm sitting here trying to give you money! I'm just not going to do it twice!

A double dip has been announced, sans BR.

Frozen Sing-Along

Was is not an option to include a sing-along track on the subtitles of the first release?

Decker 08-13-14 11:26 PM

Re: Disney's Frozen - 3/18/14

A Sing-a-long DVD-only release doesn't count as a double-dip in my book.

How was the special? Had to be more comprehensive than what was actually on the DVD, right? :)

Frozen is on the pace to become the #1 selling BR of All-Time by the end of the year...or early next year.
29th 2014)
Avatar BR Sold = 7,175,000 (this number is a guess, last report had it at 7,093,543 on June

Frozen BR Sold = 6,983,072 (with a little over 3 weeks to go to Christmas, the sales will be getting close)

Avatar also has the BIG advantage of having the 2nd round of sales being 3D, Frozen has only been sold in 2D in the USA, which still bugs me BIG Time...I would have bought the 3D version, but NOT now).
