World War Z - 9/17/13
Per blu-ray.com:
Both Blu-ray editions of World War Z feature the Unrated Cut in 2D, 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround, and DVD and UltraViolet copies of the film. Only the 3D combo pack includes both the Unrated and theatrical cuts (each in 1080p with DTS-HD MA 7.1 surround); the unrated cut is presented in 2D, while the theatrical cut presented on a separate MVC-encoded disc in 3D. Extras for both releases include: -Origins: The filmmakers discuss collaborating with renowned actor/producer Brad Pitt to create a Zombie film the likes of which have never been seen. -Looking to Science: Explore the scientific realities of Zombie behavior in nature and learn more about Zombies in literature and film. -WWZ Production:

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
7.1 ?? I don't remember this being released as such in the theaters.
EDIT: oh apparently it was it just wasn't advertised as such - who knew?? |
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
I like the 3D cover more but have no interest in buying it in 3D.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
So, if you buy the 3D version you can only get the theatrical cut in 3D? Well, that makes sense...
Didn't like this one, but I am curious to check out the DC. |
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
I assume all the black-colored blood be restored to red for the "unrated" cut?
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
2d for me but I agree with sandman that the 3D cover art is better.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
No interviews with the author of the book Max Brooks? LOL I know they basically only took the title when they made the movie but come on.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
3D day one buy for me.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Already pre-ordered the 2-D Blu.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Anyone know if it would be possible for say a later release to have Forster's original cut? Was the movie fully done effects wise when they decided they wanted to reshoot the entire last 40 minutes or so or was it an unfinished rough cut.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Do we know how much longer the unrated cut is?

I don't know that it was a matter of length. The entire last act of the movie was scrapped and reshot.

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
When I watched this in the theater, there was only really 3 spots where I thought, "oh. There's your pg13!"
Soldier shoots himself. Someone gets a hand chopped off. And and crowbar to a zombie head and getting stuck. I'm expecting to see more at those parts. Curious to see if there's more. |

this "unrated' cut probably won't restore the original 3rd act. itll prob just add cg blood and gore to attack scenes
At the very least seamless branching it in doesn't seem out of the question. Unless they've decided to completely disown the original ending for some reason. |
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Not sure how possible it is, but I think they could reuse that footage in a sequel depending on how they want to take the story.

If that's true it would be severely disappointing. The release the original ending on Blu-ray would be a perfect opportunity to further cash in on the movie. The damn thing is already filmed, it really wouldn't be much of a problem to include it.

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
The announcement mentioned only the 3D version having the theatrical cut. Amazon has updated artwork of the 2D combo pack with a sticker stating it also includes the theatrical cut. Good news.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Watched the UNRATED cut and it was basically what was already mentioned - lots of cgi blood added to some kills, both, human and zombie. They actually added quite a bit of it to the hand chopping of the Israeli soldier girl's hand, but the continuity was fucked, because none of the blood got on Brad Pitt or his hair.

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
So no big alternate bit?

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
It's been confirmed the theatrical cut in the 2D combo pack is only on the DVD. So I just purchased my first new release digitally. Used a $3 off Paramount coupon and got the UV version of the theatrical cut for $16.99.

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
So it looks like Best Buy will have "*Best Buy Exclusive content and packaging*" (at least on the 2D version), Wal Mart will include a " Walmart Exclusive Zombie Town Hall with one hour exclusive content featuring zombie experts George Romero and Max Brooks*" and Target will have another of those exclusive Digibook things.
http://img3.targetimg3.com/wcsstore/...1309061740.jpg I'm probably going to cancel my Amazon 3D order ($23.75 via Gold Box), buy the Wal-Mart 3D version for $24.96 and hope they'll take the $2 off coupon I got from Target that came with Star Trek Into Darkness. Man what a confusing situation. |
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Glad I went with the FYE sale and picked up the 3D version for $16 bucks. None of those exclusives interest me.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
Great. More exclusives. Just great. I wonder how far along the much-discussed alternate ending they got before the decided upon what they eventually used.

Be aware that the Walmart exclusive "Town Hall with George Romero and Max Brooks" is only available on Vudu and isn't disc-based.

INCLUDES EXCLUSIVE BONUS CONTENT. Watch over an hour of all-new content on Vudu. "Zombie Town Hall: Knights of the Living Dead" featuring Max Brooks ("World War Z"), George A. Romero ("Night of the Living Dead", "Dawn of the Dead"), and Steven Schlozman ("The Zombie Autopsies") in a live discussion on the rise of zombie fandom and the role and impact of the modern zombie on popular culture. |
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
FYE.com has the 2D version for $14.99 and the 3D for $19.99. I think these will be in-store prices as well.
|
Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
I'm leaning towards the Best Buy 2D version. Strange there hasn't been any mention of what the bonus content 'is'

Yeah, it really sucks that they're stripping bonus content off of the DVDs and blu-rays to use as a carrot to get us to sign up for Vudu, Cinemanow, and other cloud-based services. They're using discs as Judas goats and asking collectors to cut their own throats.

I believe the Target exclusive is just an art book packaged with the movie and not a digibook. It looks similar to the exclusive they had with Snow White and the Huntsman.

Re: World War Z - 9/17/13
PM the 3D exclusive version to FYE's price online, used $2 coupon from STID, and 10% off Cartwheel.
