I did get the CinemaNow bonus features, so it's not a total loss. I could still get the Target 2D set if I really wanted, I suppose, and consolidate the US discs with the 3D German disc into the German packaging, which is less ugly than the Target one. Not sure if it's worth the hassle, though.
You'll still be missing the Target exclusive extras, unfortunately, but it sounds like it has more than the German copy.

If it helps, in addition to my iTunes code, you can have my 2D Blu-ray. I'm expecting the Steelbook from Canada (stupid Canadian post office lost the package, so I'm waiting for a replacement). That's 2D only, so I'm going to put my 3D Blu-ray in the Steelbook, which will leave me with an extra 2D disc and DVD.

What's sadder still is if Paramount were to re-release STID and M:i-GP with shifting aspect ratios on BD, I'd give them my money in a heartbeat.

I didn't pick up the release due to the bonus material debacle, but I stopped at the Target near my job on Monday night. There were no more copies left of the 3D exclusive.
I ended up price matching Target at Best Buy on Tuesday when I had them price match (and add the DMR coupon) the 3D edition of Iron Man 3.

Note that Target has two different exclusives, for 2D and 3D. One exclusive, with the white slipcover, features the 30 minutes of bonus features and the 'Plan and Save' coupons, while the other exclusive, with the normal cover, ONLY has the coupons. They all have a sticker on the packaging saying that they are Target exclusives.

Brad Bird had said if fans of the movie really wanted a shifting aspect ratio version they would release one but nothing came of that.

I can't fathom watching a shifting aspect ratio movie in a home theater, I think that would drive me nuts.
If they want these at 1.77 for a "bigger" image, then film them that way, but personally I feel the Star duo of film series (Wars and Trek) should both be done at 2.35 scope.

Did you never watch The Dark Knight, Tron Legacy, or The Dark Knight Rises on BD? It's hardly distracting at all. Heck, I didn't even notice most of the aspect ratio shifts while watching Tron Legacy.

No, I have the Dark Knight films on DVD, they're scope all the way through. I haven't watched Tron Legacy yet, it's on my list....

I've got Walmart's "Big Screen Edition" of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and while the movie is a convoluted mess, it's A/V demo material. The forest battle is spectacular, and I really think the shifting aspect ratio helps it. The first time I watched it, I wasn't even conscious that it had changed until it was over and reverted back.

The movie of course sucks in both versions, but the added height of the IMAX frame helps in making Bay's spastic camerawork and editing a little bit more visually coherent.

Yeah, character and narrative are rarely well developed in his films, but by God, they *look* cool!

Apparently the store exclusive versions are sold out on the websites too. I guess I snooze, I lose. The Target one might still be around in stores, but the Best Buy one looks out of reach unless you live in Canada.

On the subject of Ghost Protocol, wasn't there a Best Buy-exclusive version of that with a whole bunch of additonal extras too? Anyhow, I was going to buy this to actually support the film, but apparently Paramount don't want me to, I guess I'm off to eBay.

Best Buy had a second disc of bonus content, but there were also some featurettes spread across iTunes Extras and Amazon Instant Video.
