Re: The Hudsucker Proxy - Febuary 26th
Man I was paying $28 for DVD's of movies I didn't even like as much back in 2000, and that's 13 years ago. And then there's what laserdisc cost.
I think $20 in 2013 for this title is just fine. It's a shame Walmart has devalued catalog films for the studios with their dump bins.

Re: The Hudsucker Proxy - Febuary 26th
Regardless of what past prices were, the market has changed. $20 for a bare bones release is not worth it to me anymore.
As much as I'd like to own this on Blu, I'm going to wait it out a bit for a Warner Archives Sale that includes Blu's...I'm sure it will only be a matter of time.
With just about everything outside of Twilight Time/Olive, Criterion, Disney, and Imports being able to be had around the $10 mark, my days of buying high to own early have ended.

For Criterions, you have to pony up $15.

Re: The Hudsucker Proxy - Febuary 26th
I am not a shill for studios at all, but I think it's naive to assume studios must "get wise" by basically giving away their content because it's been out for a while on a lower-resolution format. Does anyone think studios will honestly respond well to people threatening or following through on piracy as a means to obtaining the content? That will just guarantee they release less of it to pirate in the first place. Yeah I know there will always be HD broadcasts out there to pull down, but they are not the same quality as getting the content on a Blu-ray.
It could very well be that the Coens somehow got a sweetheart deal for home video royalties and that's why a title like Hudsucker has to go through this channel as opposed to say a recent WB catalog title like Next of Kin.
Of course I'd love to pay $2 for every movie I want on Blu-ray. But there are a lot of jobs a long the way that have to be done to produce a title on home video. Should they all work for free? I mean here we have a format which is by far the most technically superior home video format (outside of actual film) and even at $20 a catalog title is about 1/2 of what it cost in 2000 for a catalog title ($28 from 2000 inflation adjusted is almost $38 today). Why was it OK for some then but not now?
Anyway, if Blu-ray recedes to a laserdisc-like presence in the market when lower-quality streaming takes over, that's fine with me. As long as these discs are still available through some kind of retail channel I will purchase the movies I want to own on physical media. To put it bluntly, fuck the cloud.

When anyone receives this, can they confirm if there are special features or not?
If they didn't carry over or add to any special features from the German DVD, then I'm sticking with that one.

Same situation for me as Mr. Salty. No shipping notice but the order invoice shows that it has shipped.

I was just waiting for a review to bite on this. Sounds like they did it right except for the extras, so I'll be ordering a copy as soon as Amazon gets it back in stock. Can't believe it's not a big enough title for them to do a real release. It's my second favorite Coen Bros. movie.

Mine is out for delivery today. I know what I'm watching tonight!
Says it came from Aurora which is literally the next town over.

I guess I should have purchased mine at the WB store: I hadn't heard a word from Amazon which is where I placed my order and maybe the comments are correct that Amazon didn't have copies...

I should clarify - the actual return address says Aurora and fulfillment or something. I have a feeling UPS hands it off to the USPS in Carol Stream.
