Question about some itunes HD films

I noticed itunes has a bunch of films in HD that are still not yet available on Blu. Are these true HD or just upscaled 480p versions? How do they get them if they arent even on Blu yet??

Apple may be paying studios to license HD masters before the Blu-ray comes out in order to make a profit.

Also, a lot of films are televised in HD before they're on BD.

What they said. HD masters exist LONG before home video releases these days.
Also, some films get a "pre-theatrical" digital release on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
