That's an awesome cover. I'd consider it but I've already got the bulk of the other Bond films in standard packaging that I don't think I want to mix a steelbook in with the rest of the films.

Depending on the pricing and availability, I might go Steelbook for this one. I loved the movie.

It's up for pre order at Amazon's French version, believe I saw it for 27.99. Euros of course. What's that come out to, like $30 something? Anyway it should drop by the time it actually comes out. I preordered my regular blu ray at Amazon for $24.99 but I'd be surprised, stunned even, if it doesn't sell for $19.99 on release day.

Not going to buy any Steel Books or fancy cases.

Once I get my hands on Skyfall, I will take out the disc and put it in my Bond 50 set in it's proper place.

Any news on any kind of program for owners of the Bond 50 set?

Cool that they left an open slot for that one in the set. Maybe they'll have all the extras on one BR for us. ;)

Yeah buy Skyfall, remove the disc and put it in your Bond 50 set, throw away the paper placeholder disc.

I think that guy might have been under the impression that the placeholder they left in that set 'reserved for Skyfall' was an indication that buyers of Bond 50 would be getting Skyfall for free....which it wasn't ;)

I wish I could give people the benefit of the doubt on this one but I can't. I'm no psychologist but there are two pretty blatant camps who are expecting something:

1: I've seen more than one person (all on the Blu-ray.com forums if I remember correctly) who would rather jump through some slow mailaway program to get a disc only rather than buy a product with an unnecessary/duplicate packaging, like they have an OCD about what to do with the empty Blu-ray case when they're done with it.

2: I've seen at least one person (I think it was here) who just had a bratty sense of entitlement based on nothing but the fact that they bought the box set.

So yeah, I actually find it cruelly amusing that people aren't misunderstanding anything, they're just kinda freaking out about it for various (and ridiculous) reasons.

They have OCD.

I'm personally just hoping for matching disc art. Not that it matters much, it would just look nice.

I don't care since you are talking about a disc that is at least half covered, which is then enclosed in a book-type case which is then enclosed in a slipcase.

I hope the disc art is nothing like the others in the set so I can enjoy watching people have meltdowns over something so inconsequential.

I was also hoping for a two disc set so it would piss off said people but it looks like they have taken that enjoyment away from me. :(

It ends up being about $40 U.S. after VAT is removed but shipping is added.

Amazon says I'll have this on 02/12. Sooner than expected.

I can't believe people actually leave their discs in the book-type packages.

Well, the fact that the book-type packages are super-awesome helps.

I agree, that Bond 50 set looks really cool but I don't care for my discs to have scuffs and such.

Those books that difficult for you? I don't have any scratches on my Alien, Star Wars, or Bond movies. They don't really make the discs more prone to scratches. I don't really care for them, but I'm not going to replace that many discs.

Re: Skyfall (early 2013, possibly 3/12/13)

Sliding a disc against a surface, no matter how smooth, is not a good idea. I just feel better about having my discs on a spindle and the surface not touching anything.

I thought a high profile release like this would have exclusives for each retailer. Any word?

I was in Best Buy earlier tonight. They had a slim banner on their new release cube display promoting its 12 February release date but didn't indicate anything about any kind of exclusive version or even a pre-order program from what I saw. They just kinda want you to know it'll be there on that day.

Keep in mind that, even with a huge hit like this, MGM is still dead broke and hopelessly in debt. Releasing multiple editions for different retailers is probably seen as extraneous.

With that said, a Steelbook will be available in Europe. However, initial specs on Amazon UK indicate that it's Region B locked.

Well, they're not operating as a charity. If they're releasing special retailer versions, it's because they think they can make more money that way and, if they aren't, it's because they think they can't. This will be true whether or not they're in the red.
