The original AR IMAX scenes from TDK were on the bonus disc of the DVD release, with the exception of the short establishing shots.

Unfortunately since TDK is an absolutely disgusting DVD, even the extras suffered the same terrible video quality.

I know it's a pretty niche request at this point, but the original IMAX version should probably made available in some form for people with the equipment to play it properly.

Nolan actually used the IMAX scenes in this movie as an example of his assertion that film is better than digital and that IMAX represents the height of celluloid perfection. He's very much an analog guy, eschewing digital acquisition methods and trying to do as much stunt work in camera as possible. He's pretty much the anti-Fincher.

Problem is theatre projectors don't have the resolution that IMAX has. Even 4k projectors don't touch the res of IMAX.

HD projectors work the same as HDTVs. If the pixel panel is 16:9, any other aspect ratio will need black bars.

The only theaters that can project the full 1.44:1 image are the dwindling number of film-based IMAX 15/70 screens. Digital IMAX theaters have a screen ratio of 1.9:1. The change in aspect ratio from 2.35:1 to 1.9:1 is much less noticable unless you actively look for it.

If it's a Nolan approved director's cut and not just Warner putting out an alternate release I'm definitely interested. I don't think Nolan's ever done a director's cut that I can remember.

oh shit. He's never done a DC. This is actually very interesting now. My only issue w/ this as was mentioned before w/ this bit of story that it may actually ruin the surprise of who the child was. The way it sounded made it seem like it might give too much backstory and ruin that element...either way though..I still want to see those scenes cuz..well...he was awesome.

I don't think we'll see a director's cut. We might see the deleted scenes seperately at best. The logic most of the reports are using for why we might get a cut is because there's finished footage that didn't make Nolan's cut - which is silly, as there's finished footage in EVERY film that doesn't make the final cut.

I thought Nolan was the kind of director who didn't have any 'cut' footage and always filmed exactly what he needed. I can't imagine, even if he trimmed the Bane/Ras stuff, that he would leave 30 minutes on the floor.

The biggest argument for this that I've seen is that the film ran the longest it could to still be projected in IMAX (165 min.), so he may have trimmed enough to get to that number.

IMAX platters are a moot point and I'm still confused why this "argument" exists when Titanic was just shown in 15/70mm IMAX 3D.
