Most of them don't even make sense, just as the other two videos made for Amazing Spider-Man and Avengers. Saw all three and they were wastes of time.

I agree The Avengers one is dull...I thought the Spidey one (and this one) were rather entertaining. This one, though, is my favorite of the three.

I thought they all were fun and agree with many of the gripes. Not that it stopped me from enjoying the movies to varying degrees. I'll own them all but, there were definitely flaws there.

Okay, I know this discussion came along quite a while back, but I just wanted to weigh in on the aspect ratio business. Personally I'd always go for OAR - and the fact is, that Nolan filmed both TDK and TDKR with some of his scenes in IMAX 1.44:1 - so my question to you guys is: What is wrong with black bars?

Personally I watch movies on a 16:10 (slightly taller than 16:9) display, and this makes me wonder why Blu-Ray doesn't offer Anamorphically enhanced content.

For those not familiar with the concept, the idea is to use the full resolution (in the case of Blu-Ray 1920x1080) and then stretch that resolution to any conceivable aspect ratio.

This would allow content in for example 1.44:1 ratio, with black bars on the sides on 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratio displays, and black bars on the top and bottom of a 4:3 display.

Likewise this setup would allow a movie to switch between two aspect ratios on the go on any aspect ratio display.

That's all I have to say...

I get what you're on about but for TDK and TDKR it wouldn't work. The reason being that the IMAX shots are intended to be seen as wide as the 35mm anamorphic shots but with the IMAX shots also being much taller (extending to your periphery). Going from letterboxed 2.40:1 to 1.78:1 is the closest approximation to the intended effect. Pillar boxing (black bars on the sides) would totally ruin the effect of going from the 35mm shots to the IMAX shots.

Some say that HDTV sets should have instead been designed with a 1.618:1 aspect ratio (the so-called "golden ratio", which is closely replicated by your prefered 16:10 display) instead of the current 1.78:1 aspect ratio. It's considered more aesthetically pleasing than 4:3 or 16:9 and, in this particular case, would best replicate the intended IMAX aspect ratio of 1.44:1.

Yeah the toys and the card are just stupid. I wonder since BB will now have a second disc if that means it will get additional special features or if the features of the old disc are simply being moved to disc 2.

Neither transfer is mediocre. But they are far from stellar. BB has great detail (although some shots are soft, though that appears to be inherent in the actual source) but the black levels aren't as deep as they could be. TDK is the more problematic one. It has deeper blacks but also some very boosted contrast (compare the IMAX prologue in the old BB disc to that found in the opening of the TDK disc) and some halos that appear like EE but reportedly were the result of meddling with the contrast in post. Hell, even the opening logos look blown out and not even the IMAX sequences came out unscathed.

Both transfers are watchable but short of where they could/should be.

I wasn't voicing my desire for a remaster. I was merely responding to Rypro 525's comment that the transfers to BB and TDK are said to be mediocre. So you quoted yourself for no reason.

If that is the real set that's being released it looks okay but could be better. I'll pick it up just to have the trilogy set in consistent packaging and hopefully for some new extras. Not a fan of the art card things that come with the set, the one for The Joker in particular is kind of lame even though I get what they're going for.
