Yes they are. But he sees two different labels on there so he must have both.

The stickers are different and the BR banner across the top is different and that's enough for that guy to need them both.

I don't know which is sadder: Xage spending so much money on different versions of a movie he hates, or people who can't stop talking about what someone they don't know does with his money.

If this is a poll, I vote A. the guy who wastes his money on copies of the movie he doesn't like.

I'm home with the family and Mom wanted to watch TDKR. Unfortunately parents only have a DVD player. As impressed as I was with the blu-ray, the DVD was awful. They do not switch aspect ratios between the IMAX and non-IMAX scenes (annoying bigger than usual black bars appear the entire movie) and a lot of the dialogue is practically inaudible behind the music. If I hadn't already memorized practically all the lines, I would have had a tough time understanding.

I'm not following you - do they windowbox the movie with bars on the sides?

No, the aspect ratio just doesn't switch between the IMAX and non-IMAX scenes (it does on the blu-ray). Therefore you have the black bars on the bottom and top the entire movie.

So it stays 2.35:1 the whole time like? Like the DVD of The Dark Knight?

I can live with that.

In what way are the bars "bigger than usual"?

He actually doesn't do that all the time. I remember when Best Buy had an exclusive Steelbook for Doctor Who Series 4 and when I mentioned it to him, I believe Xage said he didn't care for the show so didn't pick it up.

So it's only some things he hates.

I see it as a public service. Every time I'm interested in buying a movie, I wait to see everything XAGE bought. Then I pick and choose my favorite versions.

I still don't see how the black bars were bigger than usual. Assuming you're watching on a WS TV, generally the bars are 2.35 or imperceptible.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises - Blu-ray + DVD + UV Digital Copy (Dec 07, 2012)

Finished watching Rises after about 3 or 4 interruptions, loved the movie again.

Can't wait to be able to watch it all the way through without any stoppages.

The extra "Bat Mobile" was awesome, best thing on the Bonus Disk.

The IMAX this time did not seem as clear (though it was great) as it was on TDK. Would have been great if they filmed the whole thing in IMAX, maybe I can dream that the JL movie will be filmed in IMAX.

I am so glad BR was invented so we can enjoy these kind of movies on our HDTV with the clarity and color it produces.

Really? Except for some ocassional flicker (like you'd see on a film projector), I thought the IMAX footage looked better in TDKR than it ever did in TDK. Heck, the overall disc looked better with only one obvious instance of post-tweaked contrast (one shot when Lucius takes Miranda to see the reactor for the first time) whereas the TDK transfer (even some of its IMAX shots) were plagued with the like.

Whoever did the TDKR transfer should be assigned to make an equivalent transfer for TDK.

Don't know. I didn't measure them or anything. It's a personal observation. Was watching on a different TV than usual (further away from where I'm sitting and smaller screen), so perhaps that had an impact. Either way, maybe I'm alone, but the black bars are annoying and I felt like the movie just looked a lot smaller scale on DVD.
