The Dick Van Dyke Show: The Complete Series Blu-ray in October
Ripped from blu-ray.com. Unexpected release, I wonder if it'll be worth it.

The 5-season set of the popular 1960's TV series, winner of 15 Emmy Awards and staring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore will have all 157 episodes, spread through out 15 Blu-ray discs and it has been mastered in High Definition. The series had been released previously on a 25-DVD set full with features 7 years ago. No details of what features or how many will be included on the BD set are available at the moment.

That is awesome news! I never picked up the DVD set so I'll be all over this. Hopefully I Love Lucy is next. Thank God these shows were shot on film.

Unbelievable. After putting off a purchase of the DVDs for years, I finally bought the complete series box set last night from a seller on Ebay. Less than 14 hours later, I see the news of the Blu-ray set. With any luck, I won't lose too much when I sell the DVDs, but I'm sure the BD set won't be cheap. The Image site shows a suggested retail of $349.

Surprised they would put this show on Blu. Most of the people interested in this show are in a higher age bracket and thus less likely to have Blu-ray. Just a thought, I could be wrong. But if they hesitate to put more current shows on Blu-ray due to poor sales, I don't see this one breaking any records

I'm certainly surprised at this news. Mind you, I'm thrilled that it's getting released; any catalog TV shows that would benefit from HD getting released on Blu-Ray (i.e. not shot on videotape) is nothing but a good thing, as far as I'm concerned. I just don't see this doing massive sales numbers...

This will be a day one purchase for me. This is possibly the most exciting blu-ray announcement I've heard all year. This should look gorgeous in high-definition.

Really surprised at this. We sell TV shows at a local flea market and Dick Van Dyke is very hard to move, unlike, say, Andy Griffith, Waltons, Little House, Lucy, etc. Considering that Image had a blow-out on the season sets a few years back (along with Combat! and several others) and they could be readily had for around $10 per season (and the series set goes on sell periodically), I'm not sure how many customers are really wanting to upgrade unless the price was drastically reduced.

Would love to have this but I have the others and can't see paying the $$. I wonder how long the blu-ray extras total in time. An hour or two?

The young affluet buyer is not the market for this show. People my age and older are. Although I remember watching the show, and consider it decent, I wouldn't want to own it even on DVD. As an example; I offered my father-in-law my extra copy of Saving Private Ryan on DVD. I upgraded to Blu. He said no, he was all set. He had it on VHS. WTF! The guy doesn't see the advantage of DVD let alone the BR. BR is a communist plot to take over the world and grab his money. I can give examples from my parents as well.
Hey I'd like to see a lot of stuff on BR but this one I think was a mistake.

yeah, if these were released individually I'll probably pick up a season or two here & there. But no way am I paying three bills all at once for this thing. I just don't get the logic of why there are so many sets (i.e. Friends, Hitchcock) that are being released ONLY in pricey all-or-nothing packages.
I'm sure the studios will see lack of sales as lack of interest. But if I have to make a choice between a car payment or a Blu Ray set, the car payment wins.

$150.49 right now on Amazon. Very tempting, but I've spent way too much lately, and was deeply burned by the Black Friday price for Bond, so I'll still wait until this hits $100.

That is a much better price. If I didn't own all of them I would consider it. I wonder how much time the new extras total up to be.
Has anyone seen a review that addresses that?
