Nope, both films were financed by Sony.

I was just double checking... Never realized there was a German specific division of Columbia/Tri-Star. They only produced eight films, and it's probably no coincidence that the last film was 2005 when the German film tax laws changed. Film investors in Germany used to be able to write off the production 100% on their tax balance sheets...

And that children is the reason why we have been exposed to the hack known as Uwe Boll.

That still could be the problem though. Who knows how well they archive their stuff over there. (The German division only released 8 films...) Plus it doesn't help that combined world wide grosses are less than $5,000,000.

They're pretty much DTV titles.

Anatomy was originally supposed to receive a wide theatrical release in the US with the English dub to ride the slasher wave at the time, but after Godzilla 2000 bombed and was panned for being sent to theaters with a dub, Sony scrapped all plans. It received an eight theater () release right before Halloween and then was sent to DVD a few months later.

While Anatomy 2 received a theatrical release elsewhere in the world, it went direct-to-video in North America.

The burned-in subtitles doesn't bother me on the sequel as much as the original lacks the lossless German audio.

Anyone seen the Wave 3 releases at their local $5 WalMart bin? I remember snapping up COLOR OF NIGHT, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, and LILLITH when they were first released and available for $5 each...

Looks like the TV on DVD deal is a bunch of re-hashes (according to TVshowsonDVD); I would not expect much more on the film front.

Pick up those Sony titles before they're stripped to bare bones.

Sony Pictures must be closer to bankruptcy. I wonder which studio will be able to buy out their catalog at this point...

I personally would like releases of films that haven't seen a Blu-ray release yet rather than bare-bones double-feature sets of films that have already seen a Blu-ray release.

Agreed, if one cares about quality the original releases will almost always be a better option than these Mill Creek-licensed versions.

Is this just b/c of supplemental materials or will they be mastering these from scratch (I doubt that). If the video/audio quality is the same, I wouldn't mind picking up some titles on the cheap sans extras.

If Mill Creek is stripping out bonus features, they may also be re-encoding the digital compression, and they don't have a good track record for that.

Mill Creek doesn't always source their transfers for Sony's properties from Sony itself. Some are definitely sourced from other vendors. Which is why waiting for the cheaper Mill Creek versions is a gamble.

Wonder if we'll see the 1985 Fright Night get resurrected via Mill Creek.

I'm pretty sure Twilight Time's license is for three years, so that won't be possible until late 2014.

I didn't say anytime soon, but just the fact that Mill Creek and Sony are doing this, I'm wondering now if that holy grail known as the Fright Night blu ray will see the light of day in another blu release. Is that how long TT's license is for on those releases? I had no idea.

It would be pretty great if the OOP Showa Godzilla films released by Sony were put back in print by Mill Creek, especially so if released on Blu-Ray.

Donnie Brasco.
Last Action Hero.
The Legend Of Billie Jean.

Edit: Also found out Anaconda, Flatliners, and Gridiron Gang are getting releases too.

All single releases. All out July 22nd, 2014. All but The Legend of Billie Jean have seen Blu-ray releases already.

Geez, thanks Sony.

Original post has been updated with the new releases as well with more titles that Mill Creek has possession to. Hint: it's mostly shit.

Updated list with known technical specs for the next wave.

The Legend of Billie Jean has been confirmed to have an audio commentary as its sole bonus feature.

Does the current Last Action Hero BD have any bonus features?

New double features coming on August 19th:

Identity / Vacancy
20 Million Miles to Earth / It Came From Beneath the Sea
Basic / S.W.A.T.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned but many of Mill Creek's Blu-rays are being put on extreme sale at Supercenter Walmarts. An entire display of Mill Creek double features for $2.96.

TriStar's Donnie Brasco extended cut Blu-ray is currently cheaper on Amazon than Mill Creek's upcoming theatrical cut Blu-ray will be.
