I'm prepared for the worst but would likely buy quite a few classic catalog titles if the encodes are decent.

Mild interest on the Hostel double feature, depending on reviews.

As Per Mill Creek, both will retain their OAR and DTS HD-MA 5.1 soundtracks. The press release mentions not a single word if any bonus material will be included.

On the same day, Mill Creek releases these titles onto DVD, so assume Blu-ray rereleases (and re-releases) soon: Moved to the OP.

Looks like they've actually snuck in a handful of legitimately good films among the usual middling, forgotten junk: Anderson Tapes, Last Detail, and Baby, the Rain Must Fall would all make potentially worthwhile releases, depending on the quality of the transfers.

Personally, I was hoping The Squid and the Whale would see a Criterion release. However, with Sony handing the rights to Mill Creek, I'm assuming my dreams will never happen.

I'll get the Hostel release just to cut down on space.

You do realize this double feature will most likely be movie-only?

So on Hostel, you'll lose:
  • Four audio commentary tracks.
  • 55-minute documentary.
  • 30-minute documentary.
  • Five featurettes.
  • Interviews.
  • Deleted Scenes and Alternate Ending.

Hostel: Part II, you'll lose:
  • Three audio commentary tracks.
  • Four featurettes.
  • Interviews.
  • Deleted Scenes.

Grab the Blu and put all 3 in 3 disc case for a set. I did that for Black Hawk Down. Disc 1 Blu, disc 2 and 3 from the DVD set.

I've seen all of the extra features, if I care enough about keeping them I'll just throw the dvds into a 3 disc blu-ray case. Hoenstly though I'm not in love with the movies and doubt I'll ever care to watch the extras again.

I might pick up The Messengers/Freedomland. Not a bad price.

Stay away from the Hostel double feature and pick up the original Sony Blu-rays of them. Hostel Part II received an abysmal transfer that went horribly wrong somewhere down the line, with crushed black levels and other problems.

It's too bad considering Roth was a detractor of the HD master that found it's way on the original 2007 disc. His "approved" HD master found its way through various HD channels like Showtime, but it's too bad Sony (and Mill Creek) couldn't fix that here.

Bumped with information for releases in May. I still need to add the information for the WM exclusives/everywhere else in a few weeks.

Updated with more future releases. A lot of the titles only saw pan and scan DVD releases. Mill Creek's upcoming DVD releases of these titles will be the first time they're presented in their OAR.

Leonard Part 6? I bought the DVD just because I figured that was the best release that turkey was ever going to get, and it was lucky to have just gotten that!

I really do like Hudson Hawk, but alas Hollywood Homicide is so bloody awful that its making reconsider this one. I'll probably cave at some point.

WAVE 3 (May 7th, 2013)
I've almost bought Anderson Tapes on dvd a handful of times (Sean Connery why else), but with this coming I'll gladly wait and pay my money. Oddly, this one has a high MSRP, I'm pretty sure that's a misprint though since nothing from Millcreek goes over $10 (and most are around $5).

FUTURE RELEASES CONFIRMED BY MILL CREEK & SONY
  • Fortress 2: Re-Entry
  • Hanky Panky
  • Hexed
  • Mary Reilly

Fortress 2 for completeness sake, Hanky Panky calls out the Gene Wilder fan in me. Hexed is actually a really good film, I got the dvd a while back and I will gladly repurchase and make a combo out of it (the dvd has a commentary among other things). Mary Reilly is a wife's favorite, and I don't think she'll mind the upgrade if its cheap enough. I love the variety too. All genres are getting some love.

Just received the Anatomy double feature in the mail from Amazon.

Anatomy? The English dub has a lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack. The original German soundtrack? Dolby Digital 5.1 at 384 kbps.

Anatomy 2? The original German soundtrack receives DTS-HD MA 5.1, but also has burnt-in English subtitles.

The one Mill Creek double feature I actually purchase and it's a fuckshow. I reached out to Mill Creek as their original press materials said both films would receive German DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks, but the packaging does mention German being only in Dolby Digital 5.1. :(

Received a response from Mill Creek.

Sony provided them all of the materials for their Blu-ray and DVD releases and that's all they have to work with. Unless there's a defect with the release, they have no plans to issue another release of the films anytime soon.

While I can live without the bonus materials (both Anatomy films were special edition releases) and the fact Anatomy 2 has burnt-in subtitles, it sucks that one film gets a lossless soundtrack and the other doesn't.

Come on, doesn't Oscar winner Stefan Ruzowitzky deserve better? ;)

Those complaining about Mill Creek should check out MR. SARDONICUS and SHIP OF FOOLS. Excellent transfers, and each has a second feature attached. If this series continues, I am first in line.

I worked on streaming files for these films years ago, but I seem to remember that we found it a little odd that the master for Anatomy was English with no subtitles, while Anatomy 2 was German with burned in subtitles. (I can't remember if were using SD or HD masters...)

I believe both of these titles were acquisitions, so I don't believe Sony can really do much.

If Mill Creek would pair up Hudson Hawk with Color of Night, I'd buy that as a Bruce Willis guilty pleasure double-bill. But I have no interest in owning Hollywood Homicide or Playing God, which they are (respectively) stuck with now.
