Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

Not officially announced yet, but this date is what's being thrown around. Amazon has their pre-order up. BD/DVD/DC combo pack. Their current pricing is $21.99.

Day 1 purchase for me and I really dig the artwork.

I wonder if there will be a "BIG SCREEN" version exclusive ALA Transformers for the IMAX scenes. That would be freaking stellar.

Also, is the name of the movie GHOST PROTOCOL? :)

I had fun with this in theaters. I might pick it up once it hits $15.

I'll wait until they remaster the first three and include this in a box set. I might be waiting a while...

I see a steelbook coming for France and the UK.. Why does the US get the shaft on pretty much all the steels?

I'm assuming it will be like THE DARK KNIGHT Blu-ray...2:35:1 for standard scenes, then the entire screen for the IMAX stuff.

also the sequel they're wanting to do. You might just have to wait longer actually now...

Which is exactly how the Wal-Mart exclusive "Big Screen" Edition of TF:ROTF works.

I was surprised how much I liked this in the theaters, preordering right now.

I'm finally seeing this in IMAX this afternoon - ugh, better late than never on the big screen.

You should have a good time. I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the IMAX presentation was when I saw it!

except that the BS ediition of ROTF (heh...BS) was only for Wal-Mart. I'm heavily assuming BD for MI4 will be avaliable for all IF we do get the IMAX scenes?

holy crap! I was nearly gripping my chair when the camera was looking down the skyscraper (the cover art) I have a fear of heights and the IMAX presentation replicated that fear to a tee.

Because people in the US buy Blu-rays no matter what (even if they're in crappy recyclable cases). Whereas the Europeans need a little more incentive to plunk down their money.

It was pretty crazy, wasn't it? Heck, even some of the overhead shots of those cities had me watching in awe.

Just pre-ordered it on Amazon.com for $21.99. Loved the movie enough where I don't mind paying that price, but it would be nice if it dropped a few extra bucks.

This is definitely a movie I'd like to see the behind-the-scenes features on but I'm waiting for a price drop.

I just got the official press release less than an hour ago so I guess Amazon just hasn't put it up yet. The MSRP on the 3-disc set is $34.99 and 2-disc, $29.99, so one can assume the 3-discer will be around $26.99.

Hmm...the MSRP Amazon has listed for the 2-disc is $44.99. $21.99 on Amazon doesn't seem like so much of a "deal" if that's the $29.99 version.

Well, looking at the press release, they say "Pricing" so might not be the same thing... Still, in store I'd expect pricing to be similar to the days when there were two different editions on DVD, something like $17.99 for the 2-disc and $24.99 for the 3-disc or something.

hmmm. I think I will pass temporarily unless this does turn out to have a full-length commentary.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

The 2-disc set is in my goldbox for $20.89. I might just opt for this version. I barely have time these days to watch the actual movie, so not getting all the extras for this movie probably won't bother me too much.

I wish every new release would automatically have a BD only version for $15.

Shannon Nutt 02-22-12 08:44 AM

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

HiDef Digest posted a press release for only ONE version, with a MSRP of $44.99, which matches what Amazon has up for prebook. Maybe the States are just getting the one version, and the 2-disc and 3-disc editions are for other regions?

DVD Active has a listing for the 3-disc Limited Edition:

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

DVD Active's SPRs appear way off. Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($29.99), and 3-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($34.99)

Paramount is usually the most expensive.

TheMovieman 02-22-12 10:10 AM

^ That was the pricing I got in the press release as well...

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

the latest news is that the IMAX shot scenes are being presented in cropped constant height 2.35 AR for the blu-ray edition - there's been no confirmation yet if the dual 35mm/IMAX framing might be a store exclusive, but it's not looking like it's happening. Once again, Paramount Home Video has found a way to f--- up the latest Mission Impossible film on blu-ray.

Maybe it'll be a Wal-Mart exclusive edition that has the correct IMAX ratio a-la Transformers - I hope.

That's the only store exclusive that was actually significant. I hope they do it for this one as well.

:fc: for a Walmart exclusive - but I ain't holding my breath (I hope I am wrong though)
