The 2 disc is the only one that's up for pre-order right now.

I just got the official press release less than an hour ago so I guess Amazon just hasn't put it up yet. The MSRP on the 3-disc set is $34.99 and 2-disc, $29.99, so one can assume the 3-discer will be around $26.99.

Hmm...the MSRP Amazon has listed for the 2-disc is $44.99. $21.99 on Amazon doesn't seem like so much of a "deal" if that's the $29.99 version.

Well, looking at the press release, they say "Pricing" so might not be the same thing... Still, in store I'd expect pricing to be similar to the days when there were two different editions on DVD, something like $17.99 for the 2-disc and $24.99 for the 3-disc or something.

hmmm. I think I will pass temporarily unless this does turn out to have a full-length commentary.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

The 2-disc set is in my goldbox for $20.89. I might just opt for this version. I barely have time these days to watch the actual movie, so not getting all the extras for this movie probably won't bother me too much.

I wish every new release would automatically have a BD only version for $15.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

HiDef Digest posted a press release for only ONE version, with a MSRP of $44.99, which matches what Amazon has up for prebook. Maybe the States are just getting the one version, and the 2-disc and 3-disc editions are for other regions?

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

DVD Active's SPRs appear way off. Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($29.99), and 3-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo ($34.99)

Paramount is usually the most expensive.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

the latest news is that the IMAX shot scenes are being presented in cropped constant height 2.35 AR for the blu-ray edition - there's been no confirmation yet if the dual 35mm/IMAX framing might be a store exclusive, but it's not looking like it's happening. Once again, Paramount Home Video has found a way to f--- up the latest Mission Impossible film on blu-ray.

Maybe it'll be a Wal-Mart exclusive edition that has the correct IMAX ratio a-la Transformers - I hope.

That's the only store exclusive that was actually significant. I hope they do it for this one as well.

I think it was one of those "you had to be there" things. Some of us noticed how many times Tom Cruise would appear in profile on all his DVD covers or movie posters... mainly from one side. He was always looking to his left. So we started posting pics of his posters.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

I saw this on the blu-ray forum about the Imax scenes.
From Brad Bird's twitter:

I hope Brad Bird is wrong about this. I want the Imax scenes in the movie.

Why would the director be wrong about that? Bird sounds pretty damn certain. That sucks ass. Like he said, "MAY happen in the future."

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

kind of ironic that MI:GP gets the lossless audio right but NOT the IMAX aspect ratio deal...

"It doesn't approximate the IMAX experience" = "It's a lot cheaper/easier for Paramount not to do it."

Yeah, it was pretty funny. I wonder if its archived somewhere... although I imagine most of the picture links would be dead.

Re: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - 4/17/12

What’s even more frustrating is that there is apparently going to be a new 4-movie boxset that will finally include lossless tracks for M:i and M:i-II but still keep M:i-III as lossy (and not include its special features disc either).

I really don’t get what the hell is up with Paramount and this franchise. Given M:i-GP was such a huge hit, doing an IMAX release is a no brainer. Waiting ‘til later will just get people less enthusiastic for such a release.

I can't remember if it was a dedicated thread to his profile or part of another thread. I remember posting the cover of "The Firm" because even though the main shot is him almost straight on, if you look close, there's an insert of him running and there's his right-side profile.

Are the IMAX scenes incredible looking? Sure! But for me the switching framing is pointless and distracting. You can't recreate the IMAX experience at home unless you sit 2 feet from your screen. The IMAX scenes are shot with 2.35 framing in mind so we're not getting any useful information anyway. At least watching in an IMAX theater the switching framing isn't as distracting because everything is just plain huge! At the IMAX theater I go see movies at I actually have to force my eyes up and down to see the entire screen when the scenes switch back and forth... and I generally sit towards the back of the theater. After scanning the entire frame admiring how cool the scene looks I'm back to watching where the important action is... in the center.

Certainly it looks like I'm in the minority with my opinion. The perfect solution is to just offer both options on the release. Not sure why this hasn't happened yet.
