That was my supposition. It's possible they could move 5000 units, though I don't think it would be an instant sell-out like their prior horror titles.

In Japan, which is Region A. As mentioned above, it can usually be found for about $10-15 US after shipping from CDJapan (that's how I bought it, only cost me $13). The bonus materials mirror the two-disc set The Weinstein Company put out to promote Diary of the Dead.
However, with that being said, the HD master is "cropped" from the original negative (but has been "approved" by Romero). That might still make the Millennium Edition release from Elite to still be the "defensive" release of the film on home video to some.

So I just read the news about John Carpenter's Vampires, and I have never had any experience buying a twilight time bluray. Will only a certain number of copies be available, is it thru their website only, will it sell out quickly and be OOP? Its one of my movies I have wanted to upgrade since it was one of the first dvds made, and looks pretty bad now.
All Twilight Time Blu-rays are limited editions, usually 3,000 copies but some have been increased to 5,000 if the label expects a high demand. Very few Twilight Time releases have actually sold out, though horror titles (especially those from notable directors or with big cult followings) have the most likelihood of that happening - and when it does, they usually go fast.
With Twilight Time, titles either linger around forever and never sell out, or they sell out in a blink. Very little in-between with them.
Vampires is a tough one to gauge. It's a horror movie from John Carpenter, which would normally sell like hotcakes to the horror crowd. But it's also widely regarded as a lousy movie and one of Carpenter's worst. Then again, many of Carpenter's fans are apologists who will collect anything he puts out.
This could go either way, honestly. If you like the movie and want to own it, you should probably preorder as soon as it becomes available to do so.

In case you didn't know, Christine will have a wide release Blu-ray by Sony on 09/29/2015.

It could still sell out but I wouldn't expect an immediate sell-out.

Deep down inside, I'm laughing at this. So Sony is now saying "fuck you" to Twilight Time and re-releasing Christine themselves. And it's Sony, which means more than likely we'll see this in the BOGO sale by the end of the year. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if they released Fright Night again under the Sony label.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release on Blu-ray director John Carpenter's film Christine (1983), starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Harry Dean Stanton, and Christine Belford. The release will be available for purchase on September 29.
Supplemental features to be included on this release have not yet been revealed.
Geeky student Arnie Cunningham falls for Christine, a rusty 1958 Plymouth Fury, and becomes obsessed with restoring the classic automobile to her former glory. But as the car changes, so does Arnie, and his newfound confidence turns to arrogance behind the wheel of his exotic beauty. Arnie's girlfriend Leigh and best friend Dennis reach out to him, only to be met by a Fury like no other.

Kind of glad that's the case. I'd rather not pay $35 or so for Christine but would like to own it on Blu-ray.

No, it's Sony using Twilight Time as a testing ground to see if any of these catalog titles sell. And if any do, Sony reclaims the title after the three year licensing contract expires (as was always their right) and re-releases it themselves.

So Sony hasn't figured this after 8 years of their own format being out. Even with streaming, they should know fairly well how physical media has fared overall. Shit, we have a thread on this, I'm sure they've been keeping tabs on sales as well.

I don't think the three year contract is up yet, Sony negotiated with Twilight Time to release this before that window ends.

The other thing is, there's already 3000 people who own the TT version, meaning the market will be even smaller for a Sony version.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread
I believe Christine was far and away the quickest sell-out Twilight Time had. It sold out in a matter of hours. Everything else has taken at the very least many days to sell out. Sony's assumption is that there's probably enough of a market to do another release. Especially in the wake of Twilight Time selling out 2 runs (8000 copies total) of Fright Night. Granted, the Fright Night situation was a little bit different, but they probably figure if there's any title that will sell more copies, it's Christine.

I would like to get in the heads of the people at Sony and other studios that make these decisions. They release some obscure catalog releases themselves (far more obscure than many that go to TT), and don't release ones that are far less obscure, ones that are sure to sell more than many of the ones they do release. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason. Maybe it's a rights thing, but that doesn't even make sense.

So it's not that hard to see how an executive not particularly interested in horror movies includes Fright Night and Christine on a list of potential movies that Twilight Time could license. If Sony knew Fright Night was going to sell that many copies, Twilight Time would have never gotten it.

Now, you can say that Sony should have anticipated this, because horror fans are collectors by nature and John Carpenter still has a cult following. But then some other very similar release will massively flop. There are no rules you can count on, except that it's generally a smart decision to expect the worst and hedge your bets by licensing to a third-party.
No, this doesn't explain why Sony would go and release something stupid and long-forgotten like Troop Beverly Hills at all, much less under their own brand. Maybe someone at the studio is fond of the movie?

Like the deal United Artists did in the 80s when they wanted to sell their distribution rights to several lesser known films(The Eagle Has Landed, Capricorn One, Saturn 3, The Cassandra Crossing, among others). To make the deal go through they had to toss in one big name movie. Return of The Pink Panther. That's how UA lost the film and the complete series has been split among two companies ever since.

This goes on a lot more than people realize. It also works in reverse when people in power have the ability to squelch (mid tier) releases that they personally don't like or whose associated creative talent they have issues with.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread
Most of the time it comes down to fiscal reasons. Film X needs a new transfer or restoration that costs serious money. The studio doesn't think they can recoup the costs of said new transfer with a generic catalog release alone. Studios have a fixed amount of dollars to restore their upcoming catalog slate each quarter or whatever, mostly with an eye on properties that can be exploited on home video and the syndication market.
