Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

It just sickens me that SONY is licensing titles out for these limited editions, when they OWN the damn Blu-Ray format and should be putting out as much stuff as possible themselves to promote the format, even taking losses on it if necessary! Their whole reason for buying Columbia Pictures in the first place was to have material to put out on any formats they introduced.

Yeah, but physical media is on its knees, if this is the future of it as a special collector's market, I wouldn't be surprised.

Doesn't matter- it's Sony's damn format, they won the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray battle, so they can either support it or sell it to someone who will.

as far as I am concerned - Sony should just get out of the movie industry period - they can't even jump on board in releasing/mixing movies in 7.1 surround sound - get with the program, or just leave. And if they release one more goddamn Spider-Man movie, I'll go postal... oh wait, they are.

I think it was the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer where a "SONY" title card was before the Columbia card. Aren't they spinning off Columbia because of the record losses they took this year?

I see more Sony catalog titles farmed out to other companies than any other studio. To me, if the other 3rd party is going to put in the time, effort and dedication in to properly releasing a catalog title then I'm all for it. The major studios just don't give a shit, or put out half-assed releases of anything catalog. Going through my collection this weekend, I'm shocked at the amount of titles that lack most (if not all) of the special features their DVD counterparts had. That, and with piss-poor transfers (i.e. Weird Science, Predator: UHE, countless others), it's hard to support the format.

When it comes to modern cinema, BD is still clearly the way to go but as long as studios want to separate special features into retailer exclusives and require you to buy the same damn movie 3 times, it's harder and harder to support physical media.

What Twilight Time does is commendable this day and age, but know that they pay an arm and a leg for licensing rights and their MSRP justifies that.

Other than Fright Night and Night of the Living Dead (1990), they haven't had any other titles I've been interested in. But I'm sure there will be some in the future I'll be inclined to purchase.

Given that Sony seem to own everything that Disney don't, that scenario seems unlikely.

Sony's home video division made a lot of dumb choices to release on Blu-ray in the early days and took heavy losses. Sony axed like 60% of the staff and basically decided to license everything out. Some of their selections to put on BD in the US were very curious. They were obsessed with getting out any marginal soccer movie on Blu-ray at one point.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

They'd already made a lot of dumb choices with standard DVD- after being one of the best labels the first few years, they became one of the worst through reissuing many titles with just the 4x3 pan and scan versions, and putting out new-to-DVD titles only with pan and scan as well, just as 16x9 TVs were starting to take hold too! I wrote them an angry letter about this, mentioning that I knew Blu-Ray was coming out in the next year and I was skeptical that they would do a good job with that format also. Looks now like I was sorta right!

It's especially disgusting to see Sleepless in Seattle released through Twilight Time, as that was used to demonstrate many prototype DVD players (someone said the encoding was so bad that it looked like Meg Ryan's eyes stayed in place as the rest of her moved) and one of the first DVD titles released.

Ugh. Definitely in for Wild at Heart. I want Garcia and Used Cars, but not at $35.
To buy from TT, the title has to be something I cannot do without on BD and "Used Cars" is one of those.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Here's a list of movies released by Twilight Time here in the states that are available in other regions worldwide. The list is split up by region, next to each title is the country where the title is sold. Hope this helps out some people that missed out on the original 3000.

Region A/ABC
As Good as It Gets UK
The Blue Max Japan
Body Double Spain
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia Spain
Fever Pitch UK
Leave Her to Heaven Spain
Oliver! UK
Philadelphia UK
Sleepless in Seattle Australia
The Big Heat Spain
The Blue Lagoon Germany
The Driver Japan
Drums Along the Mohawk Spain
The Egyptian Brazil
The Rains of Ranchipur Germany
The Way We Were UK
Wild at Heart UK
Zulu UK
Region Free Status Possible, But Unconfirmed (At Least Region B)
The Roots of Heaven (some editions only have French audio track) France
Stagecoach 1966 Germany
Désirée Italy
Region B Locked
The Fury UK
Royal Flash UK
Sexy Beast UK
Violent Saturday France
The Kremlin Letter France
Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (Likely) Spain

(This list is based on the most current list of TT titles I could find. Feel free to correct me if any of the info presented in this list is incorrect. If a title wasn't manufactured by anyone other than TT I simply didn't include it on the list. So if the title you wanted isn't on this list and you missed out on the initial 3000... well... lets just say I wish you luck on Ebay.)

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Just a heads up, The Way We Were is available in Europe too, like Italy and Germany.

The UK Sexy Beast is an abysmal transfer, dont bother.

Oh, and TT didnt release Stagecoach.

TT didnt release Stagecoach
Thanks for the info on "The Way We Were" I edited the post.
I looked into "Stagecoach" apparently that was one of TT's DVD exclusive titles (as was "Kremlin Letter" and "Violent Saterday"), Good catch. I'm gonna leave them there anyway though.

Never bought from Twilight Time before. How fast do their limited run titles usually sell out? Any chance of catching a promo of any sort?

Depends on the title. Some have sold out in hours, some a few weeks or months. No promos.

Yikes. Any idea if Titus was eagerly anticipated?

Read some reviews in it. Based on the transfer, I think you're safe from a sellout.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Twilight Time has released over 75 Blu-rays. Only 10 have sold out:

The Big Heat
Body Double
Christine
The Egyptian
Fright Night
The Fury
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Mysterious Island
Night of the Living Dead (1990)

All others are still in stock, though Enemy Mine supposedly has less than 100 copies left.

I don't think there's any danger of Titus selling out anytime soon.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

I just saw that they're releasing The Train and The Mechanic in June. I'm down for both of those. It also looks like it's going to be 5 titles a month from now on.

The site's front page still says less than 100 left, but I see that the link for the listing has closed now.

Indeed, that one should sell out sooner rather than later.

BTW, I noticed Amazon has Twelve O'Clock High Blu-ray but appears to be OOP since the cheapest price is over $100. I guess the demand for that one was more than Fox expected so I hope it gets a reissue.
