I've never looked in the horror topic but Mysterious Island qualifies for horror?

I don't think it would qualify, but no one said it would.

I know people who think so. I don't agree with them at all, but I've heard friends say it. I'm not much of a fan of the remake. I probably would buy it for 10 just to have for the horror challenge, but no way would I buy it for Twilight Time prices.
That's why I thought you did now I see that you quoted another post that was talking about another movie without mention of the movie. Oh well.

So is it your friends who like it more than the original film, or the internet as stated in your previous post?

Even looking up random reviews of the Remake on Google, nets me almost nothing but people who prefer the original film.

Not buying it either. It's a decent enough comedy, but I have no interest in watching it a second time.

I have actual friends who say they prefer it, one even brought it up over to my house wanting to watch it. I told them I thought they were crazy. I think those who prefer the remake probably like the added gore and the fact that it was in color. I will certainly admit that the gore effects are good, but it always felt like an unnecessary rehash to me.

Those are really it's sole selling points - otherwise, the film is a flat, drab, and forgettable piece of functional filler, inferior to the original in every single way.

I love the remake of NOTLD. While it is certainly inferior to the original and my love may have a lot to do wtih nostalgia (it is one of my earliest horror memories back in 92 or 93 as a young kid) it has stood the test of time with me as I've seen it countless times and still love it. I will say that I've always enjoyed Barbara being a more prominent character in the remake

I like the re-make. I think they changed just enough of the story and characterization to surprise fans of the original and make it interesting, instead of a shot for shot remake.

Although Romero didn't direct it, it still feel like one of his movies, and it gives us an unbroken Romero Zombie movie streak so we got one in every single decade since the 60s.

I agree and I certainly liked it when I saw it during its initial theatrical run. It's not perfect but, for me, it's better than Romero's latest living dead trilogy.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Just purchased The Big Heat. It's the most I've spent on a single movie in many many years.

Steel Magnolias? I did not see that one coming out on this line. I have been wanting it to come out for ages, but surely not at these prices.

Unlike Fright Night, I may actually try not to cave and buy it... but I probably will.

That is a pretty peculiar looking cover though.

for some reason I thought Mill Creek had that one, I like the film but was hoping to not shell out $30 plus on it.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

A few really mediocre titles in that latest crop. I saw Lost Horizon in the theatre when it came out. I was only nine and remember little about it (which may be more indicative of the film than my age at the time).

Almendros' photography in The Blue Lagoon is gorgeous, but the movie is dreadful.

I admit I'm jonesing for TT to get more Harryhausen out there. Hopefully Sony has a good master for First Men in the Moon or Golden Voyage of Sinbad they'd be willing to license out. Or The Age of Innocence or Boetticher/Scott westerns or...

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

I received my Blu-Ray for The Big Heat yesterday, and man is it a fine transfer. I did a back and forth comparison between the Blu and the DVD and there's no contest- even on my small Sony 30" 16:9 CRT HDTV. For starters there's a significant reduction in video noise and print damage, not to mention the bonus of it being a much sharper image. The original DVD isn't bad by any means, but the Blu-ray is just that good. One of the best black and white images I've seen yet in HD. This makes up for the disappointment I had after upgrading to Criterion's Blu of The 39 Steps from their original DVD. I wish these were a little cheaper, but I won't hesitate to purchase from Twilight Time again for a title I really want.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Apparently, Major Dundee has been pushed back to next year.

I have to say, out of the announced titles, along with the 90's NOTLD, Major Dundee is my most anticipated one...
