Universal is issuing a replacement disc for Psycho because of the missing original mono track.

^ are they replacing just the Blu-ray or just the 4K or both discs?

edit: Looks like it's supposed to be both according to another site.

Jeez...is there zero quality control?

You would think that with the razor thin margins to make money off this kind of stuff, they would check and double-check before something is released into the wild so they don't have to waste money fixing it after the fact.

There apparently is a mono track on the current discs, but it's a downmix (which seems to happen a lot, for whatever reason). I haven't watched Psycho yet on UHD BD, so I can't speak to that.

What I don't understand is why do the downmixes even exist? Do they have some legitimate use for them? At least Universal is willing to replace the discs, which is more than some studios would do.

In the studio's mind, the original mono track was flawed due to the condition or fidelity of the audio elements, and they were trying to "fix" it by removing all the bad sounds and replacing them with new ones that sound better. And since they did that work for the 5.1 upgrade, why not also carry it down to the mono as well? Everbody'll love it!

Universal is sending me replacement discs for Psycho in 2-4 weeks. All they asked for was proof of purchase (photo of the discs or receipt), address, and phone number.

Got my Pyscho discs. They were loose in a basic padded envelope, no protective sleeves or anything. BD has some scuff marks. 4K disc looks a bit better. WTF.

And they still don't have the correct mono mix on them. Good one.

But I bet the down mixes are more boisterous. I blame oldboy.

Psycho 2nd replacement discs are here. Just got mine today. According to other sites, these are indeed corrected. This time, they came in a standard UHD case, undamaged. I'll be backing up my copy and watching it tonight hopefully.

I've requested them via the provided web addresses; two different ways, in fact, and provided a receipt. Did you get any type of e-mail response to your request (other than actually receiving the discs)?

I did, yes. As I recall, I got an email after my initial request, in which they asked for proof of purchase, and another saying it'd take up to 4 weeks. When I got the discs, I sent another email, and got a reply a day later saying they were sorry and were sending new discs in 4 weeks.
However, I never received any emails explicitly saying the discs shipped or with tracking info or anything like that.

If you haven't received a single reply, that's not a good sign. If you have a FedEx account, you can check if you have any incoming packages just by logging in.
But if I were you, I'd send them another email.

I did get a replacement the first time, but they just sent a Blu-ray Disc — not a UHD BD.

I don’t see anything in FedEx Delivery Manager yet, so I’m wondering if I might not be on the UHD list.

Major movie studios don't really care about ancient movies like Psycho. They just want to make more superheroes-in-capes movies.

Rich and Strange is out today, and I just posted my review, in case anyone's interested. It's not the easiest film to sum up (comedy, drama, romance, travelogue, disaster movie) and certainly isn't for those with more of a casual interest in Hitchcock's work, but enthusiasts will find much about this offbeat early work to appreciate, and the BFI's new 4K remaster is drop-dead gorgeous.

The Digital Bits:
Looks like Universal is working to bring more Hitchcock to 4K this year, specifically Saboteur (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), Marnie (1964), The Trouble with Harry (1955), To Catch a Thief (1955), and Family Plot (1976)—if European retail sources are to be believed. (And they're usually pretty accurate.)
