I'm hoping for an inside packaging shot of the UK set. The sets I have ordered from there have a tendency to be on the cheaper side of things.

The fact that it's missing NBN is also a slight annoyance. Not completely a deal breaker for me, but it does make the set feel a little less complete without it.

I think it would be pretty safe to say the inside packaging shot of the UK set will be much like the following with either the same art as the UK cover or similar art to the US outer case

looks nice but I'm still opting for the space savings UK set

I'll be getting this set, it's only like 3$ dollars more and even cheaper when they remove VAT taxes for U.S. orders.

I'll be paying $134.98 shipped. And they are region free. That's like $90-$100 less than the U.S. set.

If it's cheaper..I'll get it. I don't give a fuck about space as long as that space has financial value of the lesser sort for this thing.

It is. It's like 156 US bucks. And All I need to do to complete the collection is get NXNW. NXNW isn't worth over 50 bucks...so this 100 GBP BD set is mine. While the smaller on is only 97ish GBP. Yeah...this motherfucker is mine. Fuck the space. I can make the space for the value.

It'll be even less when they take away the VAT taxes. You'll pay what I pay. What's even cooler is that all the extras will most likely play on your standard U.S. player. because Universal does not encode in PAL. I have several Universal UK import discs and all of the supplements work on my PS3.

VAT is basically British sales tax. It's automatically incorporated into the price of the item you want to buy. However, if you order from Amazon UK, they will deduct the VAT from international orders at the time of checkout. So your final price will be less than what it's listed for on the web site.

You get a LOT for the 3 bucks, so I'll be getting this set. I'll find room for it, somewhere... And I already have NXNW Digibook, so no loss there...

I've already sold my North by Northwest disc, but I may go for the deluxe UK set and rebuy North once it drops back to $13.99 again.

Damn, can't decide if I want to sacrifice the shelf space for the goodies. The Universal monsters coffin is an easier pass.

EDIT: Just placed an order for both monsters and the big Hitchcock set. Still have time to cancel...

In for the big UK set plus the monster coffin. I'm a sucker for cool packaging. So by going with the UK we get WAY cooler packages for both sets...and it's just over half the price. NICE!

A poster on the Criterion Forum received this email:

Hey Jon,

Is there any chance you guys will be releasing any more of Hitchcock's public domain catalogue, specifically the original The Man Who Knew Too Much? I have been knocked flat by your Blu-rays of both The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes.

---

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your email. I'm glad you've enjoyed our recent Hitchcock Blu-ray releases!

We license all of our films - even the ones that might be considered public domain - directly from the original production companies or their successors and representatives. By paying royalties to the owners of the films, we can obtain access to the original and best materials available and use those materials for our releases.

We'd love to have more Hitchcock films and I'm happy to say that we'll be releasing THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH next year and it looks great.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, and thank you
for supporting Criterion.

Best,

Jon Mulvaney

OMGBBQWIN! That is great news! I sure hope this comes true as I remember thinking how nice it would be if Criterion got their hands on this one when I watched it. I think I even mentioned it in the past somewhere. How wonderful! Between this news, all of the Blus being released this year, and the silent era restorations being done, it's a great time to be a Hitchcock fan! Now hopefully someone will give Blackmail some love... :)

I wonder if Criterion will release a box set with 39 Steps, Lady Vanishes, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Foreign Correspondent, and a few of the other PD titles that they previously released on laserdisc: Blackmail, Sabotage, and Secret Agent.

Has Foreign Correspondent ever been confirmed, or is it just on the Criterion Hulu page? That'd be awesome.

It was one of the Castle Hill titles that Criterion licensed the rights to, along with Stagecoach, The Long Voyage Home, History is Made at Night, I Married a Witch and To Be or Not to Be.

Off topic, but Criterion has top-notch CS, don't they? Any other company you would have asked about upcoming releases, they would have returned some kind of form response. Every time you contact Criterion they seem to actually READ your letter and respond personally. That's great news about THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH!

I don't know, they've ignored plenty of my emails over the years. They're miles ahead of companies like Kino and Olive though, who, going by anecdotal evidence, haven't ever answered a single email.
