Excited for Strangers On A Train. Hope they don't screw up the 2-D transfer.

The Universal set is really nice looking and I'd love to have it but I think I'll have to wait for a sale or a price drop. Can't see myself paying $300 for it.

At least they didn't stick Under Capricorn in the set. That was the weakest Hitchcock film I've seen. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
If anything I might just wait and see if they do individual releases. I like Hitchcock but realistically I mostly will probably watch releases like Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo, and The Birds the most anyways.

I really wish they included Blackmail and The Lodger (if that was possible at all).

Amazon pre-order price for Masterpiece box - $209.99
I'll be pretty tempted if/once this shows up in my Gold Box. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
If I pre-order now, it'll never show up in my Gold Box right?
|
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
...good god...I can't even afford that in my life right now. But...i want that.

Extras/specs on The Lodger:
Newly restored in High Definition Brand new orchestral soundtrack 2 Disc Soundtrack CD by Nitin Sawhney and the LSO Image Gallery (HD) Commemorative Booklet by Hitchcock scholar Professor Neil Sinyard I'll keep the MGM disc for the extras, but I'm terrifically excited for this one! |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
They must be joking with that list price for the box set. I won't touch it for more than $150 and if it doesn't get there I'll just wait for individual releases on some of them.

I admittedly don't understand the gross disparity in price between the 2005 DVD set, which carried an MSRP of $120 when released, and this Blu-ray set which is two and a half times as expensive. I know Blu-ray carries a premium, and there's inflation and all that, but 2.5X is preeeeeeetty insane. The only thing I can figure is that Universal knows it's not going to move nearly as many copies of the Blu-ray set as it did on DVD, they know the only people who are going to buy this are film nuts, and they know we'll pay pretty much whatever they ask to get it. Dangling "limited edition" in front of us ensures we won't have an easy time waiting for a price drop either (although I agree that cheaper, individual releases for at least some of these films are an inevitability). Universal's not wrong, though. I'll pay through the nose for this set without complaining too much. Can't fault 'em for charging what the market will bear. Instead of North by Northwest, I wish they'd licensed The Wrong Man, Stage Fright, or I Confess from Warner, or maybe Under Capricorn from Image, obviously preferring to see something that hasn't already been released on Blu-ray. Maybe Warner offered it to 'em cheap thinking that they already got their money's worth out of it on Blu-ray, or maybe the marquee value with everything else in the collection was too much to resist. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
I'm hoping the high SRP means they put in the time and effort to have proper restoration done on these.

I'm probably going to end up going with the UK set because I already have NXNW, the packaging is way better, and it's cheaper.

So expensive

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
I'm curious at what point did $20 a movie become out of line? So Dial M for Murder at $35.99 must be a real insult.

I'll wait for individual titles versus the Box Set. The Birds is already up for pre-order on Amazon and I've waited this long for Vertigo and Rear Window, so what's another year? And that's assuming they're worth purchasing in the first place ... no certain bet since Universal is involved. |
re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
Is SoaT going to have both cuts, or do I need to keep my DVD. Again.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread
The Alfred Hitchcock box showed up in my quick picks today at $199.49, along with Stangers on a Train for $13.29.
