These 2D screenshots beg to differ. It's certainly not reference (there's still DNR and EE, albeit light) but not outright terrible either.

EDIT: It seems the screenshots of the blu-ray.com review must have been taken from the older disc. The screenshots in the review you linked are far better.

A post on the blu-ray forums says the same thing is happening with the Jurassic Park 3D release. I really don't understand this...they went to the trouble of a new transfer, but the cost of updating the 2D disc is too much?

I guess we should be grateful they're keeping the bonus features.

The Jurassic Park BD transfer was done just a little over a year ago- I haven't seen it, but if there isn't anything wrong with it why would they do a new one now? I'll be reviewing the 3D Top Gun here as soon as it comes in the mail.

Well . . . no. That's why they gave 90% of it to Warner.

Don't confuse the Home Video department with the marketers. That's not fair to the people that actually care.

For a throw-in disc for a release that will be lucky to sell 75,000 copies? Yes.

Opinions on the Samsung UN60D6400?

I see that Sears has the Samsung UN60D6400 for $799 and was thinking of getting it. I know it doesn't include glasses but those are cheap on Amazon.

Anyone have experience with this set and care to give me their opinion?

Wow, that's a pretty good price. Too bad there are none in stock near me.

Me neither.

But apparently that price includes free shipping. I might as well bite and see what happens.

The $907.19 pricetag for a 3-year service plan is insane however.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

The Samsung deal didn't pan out for me. They are completely out of stock in every Sears (even their warehouse.

Instead I just purchased an LC-60LE847U from Sears. However, I foolishly didn't ask if it included 3D glasses. According to cnet the Sharp AN-3DG20-B glasses are my only option. Is this so or are there other (cheaper and/or better) options available to me with this TV?

Got my answer over at AVS Forum:

The above might be at end of life status. Usually, glasses are not bundled with sets sold at Sears.

Replacement for the G20 - They are slightly smaller and cheaper than the 20 series. Not an issue if you don't wear glasses.

Sharp's official website was worthless for finding out such information.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I watched Top Gun 3D last night and was really underwhelmed by the 3D effects. Aside from the opening credits appearing to float in front of the onscreen action, there wasn't much to let you know you were watching a 3D movie. I read reviews that said the flying sequences greatly benefitted from the additional dimension, but I disagree. It's hard to perceive any kind of depth if the shot you're looking at has just one plane against a white sky. And when one plane was supposed to be in front of another, I still wasn't wowed by the added dimension. Those looking for fighter jets popping off the screen will be disappointed.

But how did the volleyball sequence look? Did it pop?

Posted this on the Amazon bargains thread, but Gnomeo & Juliet is currently $13.99 via Amazon fulfillment. Cheapest I've ever seen the title, so I picked it up. More fun viewing for the kiddos.
