Not quite sure why, but there was mention of that in one of these threads from one of our fellow DVD talk members.
i actually already got the digital for a very good deal. that's what i do with the UK 3D's. just buy the digital cheap so i can have the easy access as well. i wouldn't pay full price for the digital if i'm getting the 3D bc that would be insane...

How's San Andreas overall? 3D, movie itself? i know the 3D got good reviews and movie not so bad either.

Plan on giving that a whirl this weekend. TG they kept Atmos for 3D. that is rare, unfortunately...

plus, with Amazon credits and store card credits it came to just under $10 so that and digital for $5 makes the whole thing $15. that ain't too bad in my book...

and a deal on the Disc.

Still don't know why some Amazon 3D versions don't come with a code slip.

Totally sold out and gone from Best Buy.

Glad I snagged this from BB on release day.

how are these older 40's-50's 3D movies? Ape, Redheads From Seattle, House of Wax, Dial M, etc...

i have a few, but admittingly have not watched them yet. just ordered The Maze bc, great review at bluray.com

and i'm interested in all...

they always get such high reviews in the 3D department and wonder how that is considering where effects are now...

1950s 3D is typically much more aggressive with depth and pop-out than modern 3D. That has nothing to do with technology. Filmmakers today are simply too timid to extend depth more than a quarter inch in any direction for fear of being called "gimmicky." In the '50s, filmmakers understood that the whole point of the process was to be a gimmick, and they wanted to shove stuff as far off the screen into your face as they could so that you'd never mistake that you're watching 3D.

Ahem:
https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/71871/ape/?___rd=1
https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/7214...attle/?___rd=1
https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/6176...-not-done-yet/
https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/5689...-m-for-murder/

APE is a terrible movie, but the 3D is great. The other 3 are must-haves.
I see the "not done yet" was left in the URL for my House of Wax review, as I had uploaded part of it but still needed to finish it and made sure to mark it as such so it wasn't posted early!

Even in b/w? I would think that would limit effect as well...

Why? The process wasn't dependent on color.

For those who might have missed it, Big Hero 6 3D has dropped to £4.99 (!) at Amazon UK, despite still being part of their 2/£18 sale.

Have both of them, will try to watch them soon. Today is the last day of my 6-day-a-week temp job so afterwards I'll have a bit of free time in between job searches.

I thought Beauty and the Beast was great in 3D. The pop outs aren't crazy but there is a nice sense of depth.

That sounds good. PotC got even better reviews, video wise, certainly not story-wise, unfortunately. I have the digital BatB live-action, but never got Dead Men Tell No Tales, even though I have them all but don’t think I’ve even seen the last one and don’t remember the one Penelope Cruz was in. Was she in last or second to last? I dunno. I like 3D and that won’t change and these sound like winners...

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

WARCRAFT...by far the best post 3D that I've viewed, not counting the animated ones. The depth continues so far back into the picture, it really brings it alive, especially on a big screen.

I really enjoyed the story too and then they throw that Atmos at you...you're right in the mist of all those battle scenes.

Rack up another one worth every dollar spend!
