Silly movie but good 3D (shot natively, none of that conversion nonsense.)

I have a buddy who read so much negative press on 3D that he believed the home theater experience sucked. That is, until he came over and watched a few scenes from various discs I have in my large 3D collection. He was simply blown away and we sat back and watched "The Force Awakens" in its entirety. He enjoyed himself so much he is now shopping for a 3D flat screen and has already started growing a collection. This format isn't dead by any stretch and someone will decide to feed the demand that obviously exists. I cherish these discs more than any titles in my collection and I'm considering springing for another 3D display while they are still widely available.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

This week's bad news: Olive Films is set to release the Jerry Lewis movie "Money From Home" in 2D, despite 3D Film Archive being able to easily provide a 3D master. Word on the street is the reasons for this are more political than anything else.

^That sucks. I would buy it if it were 3D but otherwise I would pass. Looks like I get to pass.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I remember when Warner faced swift backlash when it was discovered they would be leaving two racially insensitive shorts off the Blu-Ray release of Tom & Jerry Vol. 2. The uniformly negative reviews on the Amazon pre-release listing alone were probably enough for them to pull the project altogether.

Considering Amazon is a primary source of income for virtually ALL home video companies these days, in particular niche distributors like Olive, fans might have no recourse but to hit them where it hurts, especially before the listing -- once it's up -- gets flooded with ported-over DVD reviews and loads of b.s. non-reviews saying things like "It's good" or "Funn movie!".

I certainly wouldn't advocate posting nasty vitriol (since in the Warner case it only resulted in a "screw 'em, we'll never release it" response), but I just don't see Olive backing down on their decision. In their letters to the company, some of the HTF folks praised their "listening to the fans" in releasing the Signature editions, but there sure hasn't been much activity on that front since those initial four or five releases, so one can't help but wonder if they're not just going back to their old barebones tricks for good.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I'm not a big Jerry Lewis fan-I never found him all that funny- but if the title was in 3D I would probably bite. I don't see any problem informing the public that a 3D version is available and they should not support the release in 2D. I am also boycotting the Millcreek release of "Spacehunter." It's not that great a flick, but I would have picked it up for the 3D alone. However, I've read that there are legitimate cost reasons for the exclusion of the 3D. If it's not done well, 3D can make a bad film even worse. I can't watch "Jaws 3-D." In my opinion, Universal botched that release. It is extremely hard to focus and it's too much of a distraction to watch the movie in 3D. It is the only 3D film that I have difficulty enjoying in my collection.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I have never really listened to their music but this Kraftwerk 3D BD release sounds interesting:

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/ne...ogue-box-sets/

Parlophone are releasing Kraftwerk: 3-D The Catalogue next month, an audio/video document – available in a number of physical editions – that features all eight albums as performed live in the leading museums of the world in the last few years.

This set – which is available as a deluxe blu-ray box set, vinyl box, and CD set – features the eight classic Kraftwerk albums in chronological order: Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991) and Tour De France (2003) – filmed and recorded between 2012 and 2016 on the band’s 3-D World Tour. The locations include MoMA (New York), The Tate Modern Turbine Hall (London), Akasaka Blitz (Tokyo), Opera House (Sydney), Norske Opera (Oslo), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris) and Neue National Galerie (Berlin).

The 12 x 12-inch Deluxe Blu-Ray/Book edition features four Blu-Ray discs and a 236-page hardback art-book containing computer generated images from the 3-D multi-media performances alongside a selection of unseen photos. Two blu-rays cover the album performances, the other two discs contain tour films and projections. Everything is 3D but compatible with standard 2D. These all have Dolby Atmos 5.1 audio too, if you’re amp is compatible! The total running time is 436 minutes.

not to be nitpicky here but Dolby Atmos core is 7.1 not 5.1 - this should sound amazing. Now come on, here where's the US / Amazon preorder option??

what's up with the Ghost in the Shell 3D (2017) pre-order price on Amazon? I know it will change, but never seen a pricepoint like that. And, $20 higher than 4K. Something up with that?

Maybe it is an Amazon exclusive. They like to price those especially high.

Considering it's a box office failure, I wouldn't hold your breath for a 3D version (at least in the US)

Then, why the listing?

Why not? Never stopped them in the past. I still have a cancellation email for Frozen 3D.

It doesn't look like Power Rangers is getting a 3D release in the US.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage comes out next week in 3D and here is a little snippet from a review:

xXx: Return of Xander Cage makes for a rather fun 3D presentation. The movie offers everything in good working order, a harmonious balance of depth and quality of presentation that makes this, arguably, the best way to watch the movie between the three releases

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

Do not under any circumstances buy AMERICAN MUMMY 3D. This was one of the only titles in my collection that I paused this POS every 10 minutes to see when it was going to end...it's that bad.

The 3D is not bad, it's just the movie and everything that goes with it is!

I was going to put up a 3D emoti (whatever) but this site doesn't have it.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I was looking at an Australian blu-ray of Underworld Blood Wars 3D on eBay. It says it's region A, B and C and PAL format. I'm in the U.S. and use a PS3 with a projector. Do you think it would play on my American PS3? Thanks.

PAL doesn't really apply to most Blu-ray movies, and I don't think applies to any 3D movies, since those have to be 24p. It could apply to extras that are only in 50i though.

Blu-ray.com doesn't have any info on the regions for this specific release:

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

The Hong Kong edition is the safest bet, since I found a pic of the back cover that explicitly states its regions A,B, and C, and any extras would be 60i or NTSC, like in the US:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Underworld-B...-/322512467420

The Finland disc is also all-region, and looks like it's probably the same disc for all of Europe.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Underworld-B...-/192163165079

This post says that the Australian one is region free as well:
