Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

Figured since we are now getting close to the final animated classics line titles of 2011 and news is now starting to get out about 2012 animated BD releases I would start a new thread that Focuses on the Animated Classics line and compliments the one I started last year the 2011 animated classics bluray releases.

So far we know that 2012 will be seeing Bluray releases for

Lady and The Tramp Diamond edition (spring 2012)

Cinderella Diamond edition (Fall 2012)

Pocahontas special edition (TBD 2012) based upon the insert in the spanish bluray release of Lion King 3D

photo posted on the mexican bluray dvd site http://foro.supervaca.com/viewtopic....9963&start=120 by a member named Gran Drex

and there are rumors of a 2012 release of Mulan as well.

I'd wager a re-release Monsters Inc, with a 3D disc as well. In addition to Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid since these are all being re-released theatrically.

I thought there was a 2012 thread already. Or maybe I was thinking of the 2011 thread. Damn this year is going by fast.

But not next year, in 2013. Nemo is the only one confirmed for 12. It seems like we can reasonably confirm these for next year:

Lady & the Tramp
Cinderella
Finding Nemo

Robin Hood and Mulan are rumored, and I'd be all for that. What I'm most interested in is how the more recent films fit into Disney's release strategy (Hercules, Tarzan, Atlantis, Lilo, Emperor's, etc) Wait for a 10 or 15yr anniversary, or just release them whenever they fit into the schedule?

Yeah the other thread which i created last year was for 2011, since we are starting to hear rumblings for 2012 releases thought would be time to go ahead and make a thread for those releases next year.

Ideally this will just stick with the Animated classics line and NOT the pixar animated films.(perhaps someone cares to make a pixar animated thread lol)

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

I am hoping that the Pocahontas release Keeps both the theatrical cut and the special edition version ala beauty and the beast. Unlike Lion Kings added song morning report which felt out of place as it wasnt even a song originally planned for the movie, but composed for the broadway show, If I Never Knew you was originally written for the theatrical release but cut due to the run time of the film. Mel Gibson (while not the best vocalist) gives a very emotional performance in that song as did Judy Kuhn as the singing voice of Pocahontas.
I also would love to see them package Pocahontas II (which featured Mel's brother Donal who sounds exactly like Mel) in it as well as long as its a seperate disc though and not both on the same disc like fox and the hound.

Same here. The classics are undeniable, but I'd love to have Lilo, Tarzan and New Groove in hi-def.

I see the Finding Nemo Blu-ray release happening in one of the three fashions:
  1. Disney delays the BD+DVD and BD3D+BD+DVD+DC combo packs until the end of 2012, two-to-three months after the 3D theatrical re-release.
  2. Disney releases the Blu-ray+DVD combo pack sometime in Q1 or Q2 2012 to promote either John Carter or Brave. BD3D+BD+DVD+DC combo pack comes out Q4 2012 after the 3D theatrical re-release.
  3. Disney releases the Blu-ray+DVD combo pack everywhere else in the world but the US. US has to wait until the 3D theatrical re-release is put out.

Ditto. While all 3 would be great on blu, I would think Tarzan would look especially awesome in hi-def.

Pretty sure we will be seeing Nemo on bluray in either October or November with the theatrical re release slatted for mid sept.
can someone please create a pixar thread though, as i really created this thread to be about the animated classics line.

Finding Nemo is the only PIXAR film that has not seen a Blu-ray release despite it being the second highest grossing behind Toy Story 3. The rest are all currently on Blu-ray.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2012 bluray releases

I think we can all carry on if we accept that Nemo will indeed be released next year, I don't see it taking over a large part of the animated classics topic. Crisis averted. But given that Pixar is now part of Disney, you may want to be more specific in future topics.

Didn't the Lion King release also confirm that it's sequels are coming to blu in 2012? I guess they're technically available now, but it might be worth listing the single releases in the OP.

Is Aladdin ever gonna hit Blu? I recall reading a long time ago it was going to be, but then they substituted its release for another one we wound up getting instead. I mean, they're gonna release Pochahontas but not Aladdin? I've got nothing against Pochahontas, but c'mon

I was pretty specific though lol the topic of the thread is walt disney Animated classics, The Pixar Disney line is an entirely different set of disney releases. Now if i Disney 2012 bluray releases then thats another story.
in anycase I know its silly of me and probably more of a pet peve type thing.
But Pixar is its own thing, the greatness of those movies stand out on their own and deserve to not just be lumped in with the classics of Walt Disney animation studios propper.
