re: Tranformers: Dark of the Moon - 9/30/11

This image from Transformers' mobile site was posted on blu-ray.com. There are also some posts saying that the version released on 9/30 is just a bare bones release and that the special edition version won't be out until closer to Christmas.

If that's true, then I'll be waiting until Dec. What a lame strategy.

If theyre delaying the special edition, they better be working on more robot cg fighting at ILM to include in the film

re: Tranformers: Dark of the Moon - 9/30/11

Well there was talk a while back that the score CD was to be part of a special/collector's edition release. So it is possible.

If only the special edition would be the "leaner and meaner" cut of the movie that Bay falsely promised. A whole hour of useless filler (including all that lame improv comedy) would be excised and maybe even get the original scripted climax and ending (where the Twins die saving Bumblebee and Prime and Megatron kill Sentinel Prime with his own rust gun, followed by a Autobot/Decepticon truce).

It'd also be great if the action finale were re-edited to actually make sense (how the hell did the Autobots get captured anyway?).

I'd prefer the ending we got to the one you described.

re: Tranformers: Dark of the Moon - 9/30/11

There's a member on blu-ray.com who has been spot on lately with release dates. He says TF3 is releasing on 9/30, but the 3D version isn't until December. He's unsure if the 9/30 version is bare bones or not. The 3D version could end up being the Special Edition release.

The announcement will occur on Tuesday.

Megatron getting decapitated by Prime would have been awesome if it wasn't a cheap suckerpunch after Prime got his ass handed to him by a geriatric Transformer.

Also, the original ending actually explains why Megatron was being a mopey bitch during the climax and where all the other Decepticons around the Earth disappeared to when the fight was over. Apparently he has some symbiotic relationship with Cybertron and once he felt it nearby he just wanted to go back to it. He offers Prime a truce on the condition that Cybertron is his and the Decepticons' while the Earth belongs to the Autobots. Optimus lets him leave, giving Megatron the chance to change but doubting his change of heart will last. So the Autobots stay on Earth preparing for an eventual end to their temporary peace.

I'm with you on that one. But it's also because I dislike mp3. I wish they'd at least have offered FLAC if they were going to go for strickly downloads (for the time being).

Sort of surprised to see Dolby TrueHD 7.1 used. Especially since Captain America and Thor both got 7.1 DTS mixes. Maybe TrueHD is slowly making a comeback?

As much as I'd like to watch the action on BD soon rather than later, I can wait until Nov. for the deluxe edition. After buying Avatar, not watching it, and then buying the SE, I've realized I don't need something immediately just because it's out.

I thought I read somewhere a while back there were issues with the way TrueHD was encoded, but somewhat recently the issue was corrected.

I love that no one spoilerized any of those descriptions above. I never saw the film, but after reading them, I'm not sure if i even want to see it, much less buy it. Okay, I will buy it on the cheap...But it doesn't sound like I missed much at all.

Apparently Dolby TrueHD is slower and more expensive to encode than DTS-HDMA. Some months back Dolby had announced a partnership with another company that were helping to streamline the encoding process.

I have no plans on buying the non-deluxe Sept. 30 release, but what's up with the MSRP? what is it? Paramount press release says the DVD is 19.99/ blu-ray 29.99, but Amazon has bluray's MSRP at 44.99 - that's outrageous.

I think the press release might be a typo. Paramount's BDs usually have a higher list price, especially their combo packs. Even though the BD is bare-bones, I don't think they'd price the combo pack version that low.

it should be that low since the deluxe version is expected to street in Dec. a bare-bones release at $44.95 is akin to a kick in the nuts

... well ... the film did get a theatrical release in Dolby 7.1. I wonder if Bay had a call in making it Dolby.

I love how Blu-ray.com's message boards are flipping out they're not using DTS-HD MA. Like you can hear the fucking minute difference.

I'll be waiting for the fully-loaded 3D set since I'm a moron and I'll continue to spend money because I have a man crush on Bay (that and my wife loves the series).

Especially since, unless they used a different PCM master for each lossless encode, there wouldn't be any difference.

I'll wait for a sale on the fully loaded version. This flick was barely any better than the horrid second one.

Blu 2D w/extras for me....unless another version is coupled with the Jablonsky score. Very tempting.

Dolby can't get the credit though - 7.1 is achievable on all digital cinema audio processors. Technically if Sony wanted to resurrect five front channel sound (SDDS 8-channel sound) they could since DCI specs include the addition and application of Left center and right center speaker/sound sources - they however can't make it an exclusive since 7.1 in turn is not a "Dolby" exclusive. One wonders if the merging of five front and four surrounds (9.1) would sound like - Ah-mazing in my mind!
