Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

While rewatching the series in HD, I was also exposing my wife to the show for the first time. So I decided to skip a number of episodes of seasons 1 & 2, only showing the "best" episodes, or those I felt were necessary for continuity later one.

The ones in bold are the episodes we watched:

Season 1
Encounter at Farpoint
The Naked Now

Code of Honor
The Last Outpost
Where No One Has Gone Before
Lonely Among Us
Justice
The Battle
Hide and Q

Haven
The Big Goodbye
Datalore

Angel One
11001001
Too Short a Season
When The Bough Breaks
Home Soil
Coming of Age
Heart of Glory
The Arsenal of Freedom
Symbiosis
Skin of Evil

We'll Always Have Paris
Conspiracy
The Neutral Zone

Season 2
The Child
Where Silence Has Lease
Elementary, Dear Data

The Outrageous Okona
Loud As A Whisper
The Schizoid Man
Unnatural Selection
A Matter Of Honor
The Measure Of A Man

The Dauphin
Contagion
The Royale
Time Squared

The Icarus Factor
Pen Pals
Q Who
Samaritan Snare

Up The Long Ladder
Manhunt
The Emissary
Peak Performance

Shades of Gray

I culled my viewing list based on reviews and rankings from these sites:
http://www.geos.tv/index.php/list?si...collection=320
http://www.jammersreviews.com/st-tng/
http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/tvshow/...eneration,102/

It could probably be trimmed further. Symbiosis was not originally on my list, and neither The Royale. I debated about putting Haven on the list, as it introduces Troi's mother, but I figured Manhunt works as well as an introduction.

The TNG series improves quite a bit if you skip any episode that includes Troi's mother. Great as the voice of the computer. Unbearable as Lwaxana. Which is too bad because she was fine as Nurse Chapel in TOS.

Her episodes are typically meant to be lighter and comedic, and her character is written to be the amusing type of annoying, in that the audience is supposed to find the way she annoys everyone else amusing. I can see how some people may not like her though.

However, I think the episode "Half A Life" from season 4 is just a solid episode, and probably the best use of her character in the show.

Fail!

Agreed. That one is close to watchable given the story and the other performances.

Season 7 and the "All Good Things..." standalone disc are being released tomorrow.

For anyone who held out on buying these, Amazon UK has a listing for a Complete Seasons 1-7 set due out 12/15 for £158.50, which works out to about $220 shipped:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NQXC2YU/

This set will include all the extras from the season sets, but none of the standalone disc extras:

I don't really follow this thread so I don't know if this has been posted here or not but last spring I watched the first two seasons of TNG along with this guy at Den of Geek and his blog about the experience is pretty good, I think.

I'm guessing that the whole series will be available in the US for around $150 by next Black Friday for those that choose to wait a bit longer.

I'd like to support the release but it's still spendy for a show I don't intend to watch very often and is available (for now) on streaming. I might go for a good price on a complete set, though.

I'm waiting for Paramount/CBS to screw us loyal fans (who bought every season) over with a season set that has an exclusive Blu-ray of really great material.

See if that doesn't happen.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I haven't ordered or picked up the final season set and All Good Things "film" yet. I'm almost tempted to just wait seeing the great prices for the sets over Black Friday, but I've picked up all the sets to this point already so I might as well just finish off the series with the final two sets.

MovieStop ended up having it for $59.99, I'll take that over Best Buy and their nonsense.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

Given the extra disc that were included with the Movie collection sets, I would expect any TNG full series box set to have at least one bonus disc of material. It could be the features included in separate episode releases, or even something totally new like those on the bonus disc included in the movie sets.

Tried to pick up "All Good Things" yesterday, but couldn't find it anywhere. Best Buy, Target, Barnes and Noble, FYE. No luck anywhere.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I snagged TNG season at $57.99 and "All Good Things..." for $14.99 (I want the bonus content) on Amazon.

There's no waiting for me. I'm a massive TNG fan.

Ordered mine from Amazon. Their current price ($14.99) is pretty fair given it's likely not going to be stocked in B&M stores in any quantity, and even then, at full MSRP. Really looking forward to watching this again. Last time I watched it was years ago during a Sci-Fi channel marathon.

But I do wish a B&M like Target would have stepped up and given it a release week deal. I got Best of Both Worlds there on release week for $9.99.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

Yeah the deals on seasons three and four along with the respective "movie" discs for each season were nice. Its too bad Target stopped doing that offer. Regardless I have all the others already so I'll be getting the final two.

As much as I love TNG, I'll wait for a sale for the final season. Not bothering with the standalone discs at all.

You should have flicked Patrick Stewart on the back of one of his ears to wake him up. Still, that is a cool picture to have.

I'm assuming it cost an arm and a leg for that photo...he should have demanded a re-shoot.

I waited too long the week this came out and missed the sale price on Amazon. So I haven't gotten either the final season or All Good Things yet. Hopefully they go on sale again soon.

It was pricey. However, the situation was the convention had overbooked people for the photo shoot and I was lucky to get in at all. (You had less than 30 seconds to get your picture taken before the next person came up). Unfortunately, there was no realistic way to get a reshoot.

But, it's all right, because no one can accuse me of Photoshopping it, and it's a good conversation piece!

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I have 6 of the 7 seasons. I think I'm going to wait it out until season 7 gets discounted. It's not like I intend to watch all of these tomorrow. Right now it's way too expensive anyways going for $90 at Amazon and $70 at Best Buy. I can wait for a more affordable price. I spent a good chunk of change on the previous 6 seasons and all the standalone releases.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I'm holding out on season seven, too. Picked up all of the others on the cheap, so I'm not spending over $35 for season seven.

I also won't be picking up the standalone feature length blu-rays until they're dump bin fodder, like $5 or so.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I wonder if or when either Deep Space Nine or Voyager will be hitting Blu-ray soon now that The Next Generation has wrapped up. Personally for me with those two I'd most likely hold out until the seasons were pretty heavily discounted but I'd probably get them all eventually. I still need to get seasons two through four of Enterprise though too.
