Re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

From what I've read, the credit replacing Akkad's isn't even the correct font, which is leading me to believe it may be a new addition as opposed to something from an old print.

And IMO, I think Akkad did just as much to muck up the Halloween franchise as the Weinstein's (... with the help of Akkad 2.0) have. The Halloween sequels started getting pretty trashy for a while until Jamie Lee came back with an interest to do another one. From everything I've been told, that series was going DTV at that point until she approached them, which was understandable considering how awful the sequels started getting.

Might as well hope Universal will add all of the pre-existing extras that they were too indifferent to tack on before.

I agree with this. Wouldn't mind them fixing the HII though. I'm thinking about picking it up. Never thought it was great, but I wouldn't mind having this, III and IV. After that, they pretty much suck. I do like Danielle Harris though, so one of these days I might have to give part V another chance.

I believe KillerCannibal mentioned something about AB working on 4 and 5, so perhaps we'll see those in time for Halloween next year, along with III from Universal. Then again, I'm always skeptical of any potential Blu-ray release of an AB catalog title, as they have been few and far between.

Comments:

I was disturbed by the ugly white specks on the opening scenes of the movie and surprised Universal didn't bother to clean those up.

If nobody had mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed the new credit; it's seamless enough for an infrequent H2 viewer like me, but probably noticeable by a seasoned fan.

I liked the H2 alternate ending! I'm guessing it wasn't used because it was shot later for the TV airing and only in full-frame format?

It was great seeing Terror in the Aisles again.

Slightly OT: Is Halloween Resurrection only available in the Canadian triple feature release?

It's not a minor issue legally. They probably don't have a choice, they will have to change the credit or get sued by the estate. Akkad's credit wasn't just a producer for hire credit, he owned the Halloween rights and set up this film at Universal. Universal removing his credit is a serious no no legally.

Yes, you can only get it on the Canadian Triple pack. I own the triple pack, as well as both Echo Bridge releases of H20 and Curse. I made my own custom cover for Resurrection (below):

From the Facebook page.

"Universal promises to "make it right"! We are not sure what that means yet...but you can be sure that everyone's support here played a big part! We won't let up yet, but will say THANK YOU to all the fans who spoke up for the man who gave so much to this series. More details as soon as we get them..."
Wouldn't it be funny (in a shitty kind of way) if by "make it right" they mean changing the back cover to say Universal, an MCA Company, Presents.

That would make Universal the "Dick of the week".

I know that Trancas is putting together material for BDs of 4 & 5, but when that material will surface, and through what studio, is something I don't know. I do know they've found LOTS of cool shit, though.

Looks like 4 and 5 are in fact coming from Anchor Bay.

Re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

Unbelievable! Akkad is credited on the cover art for the blu ray case. That should of held people over while Universal fixed conan the barbarian first! The priorities are screwed up at Universal.

Re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

Again, it's probably a legal issue. Universal owns this film, but it was produced through Akkad who owns the rights to the franchise. I don't know if Akkad's estate was threatening legal action, but they definantly could have.
Universal probably just decided to fix it before it became an issue.

I sent a brief message here:

http://www.universalstudiosentertain...contact-us.php

Figured I'd find out what the deal is for getting a new copy. If it's easy, I'll bite.

Same here. If it's as easy as sending my disc back in a prepaid envelope, I'll go ahead and exchange it. I'll be pretty busy watching Christmas movies for the next month anyway so it's not like I'll miss it. And if I REALLY get the urge, I still have the DVD.

Re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

I mailed mine about a week after you did so if mine shows up today, it will be a nice surprise. Otherwise, I'll expect it sometime next week.

Mail delivery has been terrible this week. Post offices must have gotten slammed more than usual this season.
