The Incredible Shrinking Man--8/30/2011
Probably never thought this would get a BD release...I certainly didn't expect it.
"According to our friends over at Joblo, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is apparently getting ready to surprise us with a Blu-ray release of Jack Arnold's legendary The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), starring Grant Williams (The Monolith Monsters), Randy Stuart (I Was a Male War Bride), and April Kent (Tammy and the Bachelor). Technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown at the moment. Street date is August 30th."

I'm still not sure I expect it. The upcoming Amazon listing is for a DVD, and as Universal has yet to release a single pre-1960's title on Blu-ray, this seems an unlikely choice. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course, as The Incredible Shrinking Man is a personal favorite and one of the best sci-fi films of the 1950's.

I have grave doubts myself...didn't this mistake also happen with the Marx Brothers?

Ah yes, the Marx Brothers incident.
Let's keep an eye on this one and see if they retract the story.

Scott Weinberg of FearNET found the info on Universal's press site and wrote up a little article for it at Twitch (http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/05/c...to-blu-ray.php) I think we can bank on this one.
EDIT: also, the last thing I posted in the Marx thread was that The Bits confirmed with Universal that Marx Blus were on the way at some point soon...did I miss an update?

Refresh my memory about the DVD of Shrinking Man. I believe it was released as part of a 5 or 6 film set and it was a Best Buy exclusive that quickly went out of print. Was it ever rereleased by itself?

No, it was never released by itself. The individual volumes may be out of print, but a box that combines both volumes (The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection, Vols. 1 & 2) is still available. So it can still be got as long as you're willing to pick up the box.

It was the one everyone wanted, we got it anamorphic but it had the softest picture of any of them. Now we're going to get it on BD and they couldn't even put a better print in the box set on regular DVD...I'll believe it when I see it.

Looks like this, unsurprisingly, turned out to be bogus. Universal continues to have a non-existent pre-60's Blu-ray catalog.

Far and away, they remain my least favorite catalog studio for BD.

Just misinformation it seems, like the individual Marx Brothers releases. I watched the UK Universal DVD of Horse Feathers and it was attrocious in quality. We could all wish for HD old Universal releases, but I wonder how much of these elements were lost in the Universal fire.
