I'm surprised so many people seem to want this. I already own the first two films on HD DVD, along with Superman Returns. The others were a mess IMHO. So this really doesn't seem like that good of a value.

I have all the previous HD and blu-ray releases, but I'm still getting this. Superman rules.

I still enjoy portions of III and it'd be nice to have the theatrical cuts of I and II on BD. But most of all, the Fleischer cartoons (presumably) in HD make it a must own.

I'm also curious to see original opening to Superman Returns.

Also not on the original DVD set are the 3 cartoons (Bugs Bunny Superman, Daffy Duck's classic "Stupor Duck" cartoon, and Sanfuperman which I've got on a VHS collection of the Fliescher cartoons and its really funny) that are on disc 1.

But seeing they are porting over everything means I'll pick this up and might just give the DVD set to a friend of mine as a gift.

Wonder if Warner will release the final Season of Smallville on the same day? Good tie-in.

/\ I saw somewhere that Season 10 isn't coming out until November, presumably around the time.of the complete series and in time for the holidays.

No complete Series for Smallville has been announced (or even rumored). There is still a Season exclusive to HD DVD, and 4 others on DVD (apparently, there are issues with the first few Seasons which is why they have not been released).

Yeah, I assembled my own Supes collection piece by piece (Superman four disc, Superman II 2 disc, Superman II Donnor cut, Supergirl and Superman Returns), and I've barely watched them. Only thing that's piquing my interest is the original opening to Returns.

I didn't notice this includes the "Return to Krypton" sequence that Singer blew a couple mil on. I remember reading he originally wanted to re-release the film into theaters with that scene inserted back in. Glad to see they're doing something with it.

It seems like Warner's style is to finish a series then release a complete set later, like The OC and (I think) The West Wing

The original theatrical cuts of Superman 1 & 2 with the original mixes and new hidef transfers=SOLD

I hate the extended cut of Superman 1 and Donner's cut of 2 is an interesting workprint but no substitute for the real thing.

Re: Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology (DTS-HD MA) 6/7/11

Torn on this, since I already own Superman, Superman II Donner Cut and Superman Returns on Blu, plus the DVD box with most of this content. The original opening to Returns may have me on board. Will be interested to see if there is a new encode of Returns as well - a couple of scenes look terrible even on the Blu, particularly some pixelation in one of the "underwater" shots. If the Fleischer cartoons are HD, I'm sold, though.

I was too, but somehow the more I think about it the more I seem to want it even though I already have all of them..

I wonder the stuff that isn't HD...I can only come up w/ 2 reasons for that.

1. WB doesn't want to make them HD..

2. The elements were filmed in a format that couldn't be converted to HD.

Re: Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology (DTS-HD MA) 6/7/11

Note from The Digital Bits:

I've clarified with WHV that new HD masters have been done for the theatrical cuts of Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV in the BD set. The expanded version of Superman: The Movie is a newer 1080p master than was used for the previous BD release, with extensive MTI dirt clean-up. Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut and Superman Returns are the same BD compressions as before. The Fleischer Superman animated shorts are SD only. On the audio side: All films have 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks except Superman IV: The Quest for Peace which is 2.0 DTS-HD MA. Superman III's 5.1 DTS-HD MA mix is new - the DVD only had 2.0.

I have the UCE on standard DVD, but I'd held of on getting any of the Blu-Rays until they ported this set over. Great news...

The idea that studios were releasing elaborate DVD releases alongside stripped-down Blu releases back then is one of the biggest reasons why the format stumbled out of the gate. I remember back then stuff like that validated my DVD stubbornness (of course, HD-DVD was still around back then) and only in the last few years have they started to treat the format as the only place to get SE releases like last year's "Apocalypse Now" release, etc.

Still, this thing was inevitable. WHV dumped a bunch of money and spent a lot of time on this collection of extras less than 5 years ago and I'm fairly certain they've sold it to almost everyone who would want it on DVD so now it's time for us to all buy it again.
