"Special features may not be in high definition."
I'm happy to see that it will include the Fleischer cartoons, the two cuts of Superman: The Movie, Superman II and even Superman and the Mole-Men. Could have been worse, that's for sure. I just hope the cartoons are in hi-def but I'm doubtful.

Ditto. Not in a rush considering I barely cracked my UE DVD set.

Looks like the original opening of Superman Returns is in there.

Wonder if Returns will get a standalone DVD with that on there...

Yes, I believe Watchmen was first. I believe the Maximum Movie Mode feature necessitated the use of DTS-HD MA (or it was easier to author using it over TrueHD).

Watchmen and Terminator Salvation were the first Warner Blu-rays with DTS-HD Master Audio. Since then, the studio has tended to favor DTS over Dolby on most releases.

A Dolby exec told me that they saw some studios switch to DTS because of issues Dolby had with long encoding times. DTS-HD MA was faster to encode, and time is money in Hollywood. Dolby claims that they've resolved those encoding time issues, and are working with those studios again. In the future, we'll probably see more of an even split between Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA usage.

Re: Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology (DTS-HD MA) 6/7/11

Unless it's an old disc that has sat on a shelf, the only time I see TrueHD used on new releases is on Dreamworks titles. But I'm sure they'll get used more in the future. They dominated the DVD market, but DTS is definitely the favorite audio codec to use for BD right now.

I guess this is a new extra?

It's on the bonus disc and it's HD. "Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman [Hi-Def]"

I'm just glad they are issuing this set now vs waiting until closer to the new film's December 2012 release.

Yeah, they are instead releasing close to Green Lantern. Perhaps they will include movie cash?

This is a definite upgrade for me, but I'll probably wait for a price drop.

This looks great. But it doesn't mention having the original 2.0 mix of the first movie. I went out of my way to get the correct disc when the original set came out. I really like to have the original sound mixes of films as much as possible.

Actually it does say English 2.0 for Superman: The Movie in the specs box on the back cover. It's tiny but it's there. It doesn't say what format it is.

Whether or not its lossless remains to be seen but if they're going to include a 2.0 track I'm sure the intention is there to release the original soundtrack, and thanks to the reissue program for the DVD they obviously know people want it.

Re: Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology (DTS-HD MA) 6/7/11

2.0 might have been the way the original was heard in the theater, but the 5.1 soundmix was actually created for the 70mm version of the film - it would have been the first 70mm release to feature split surround but with so few theaters equipped to playback the film as such it was released in the 'baby boom' setup: extra bass channels and mono surround, but it sounds like we have both mixes on the new edition
