This is beyond excellent.
And what a coincidence...I just watched In the Line of Fire on BD last night. I compared the BD special features to the DVD and found the only items of any consequence they left off the BD release were some trailers, one of which was for Das Boot DC. I played that trailer and thought, "Hmmmm, great movie. Wonder when the Blu-ray will come out?"
This is developing as an expensive spring.

Also there should be no more flipping over the disc, only to have the second half of the movie start right up with the English-dubbed soundtrack playing (which is annoying if you've been watching the original German up to that point).

Hopefully not. Give me new, white subtitles please.

Yellow subtitles are great! I can't tell you how much I hate subtitles that blend in with the movie and make it hard to read. Yellow is a great choice for contrast. I'm not sure what the problem is.

the problem with yellow subtitled and specifically in Das Boot is that alot of the scenes happen in low light or darkness, so when people speak the subs (harhar) actually brighten the scene to the point where it becomes visually distracting - while white letters also create this, yellow though are far worse and stick out like a sore thumb

Great news. I'll assume this will not include the theatrical cut? But damn, hearing this in DTS-HD will hopefully be quite an amazing thing.

Just noticed the full specs posted at the top of this thread. This sounds like an incredible package. Don't see how anyone who admires this film could not be interested.
I've never actually seen the theatrical cut (I assume this is referring to the 2.5-hour version that played in theatres circa 1981 or so)?
I have the director's cut and the full miniseries on DVD.

Yellow subtitles are better than white because white will often get hidden against a white background (of which there are many in life). But they are harsh in dark scenes. I think they should use a white font with a thin black border. Solves both problems.
