So according to the article where those pictures came from, we will get individual releases of the remaining Bond movies. Nice. Still wish the covers matched the previous releases though.

Now then... we've learned from our industry sources that the 9 other classic Bond films (previously unreleased on Blu-ray) will all be made available as BD singles as well - initially as various retail exclusives and then more widely in early 2013. We know from their own website that Walmart will have GoldenEye, Octopussy and Diamonds Are Forever.

That leaves You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights and Tomorrow Never Dies. Amazon already has an exclusive version of the Bond 50 box set that comes with a bonus hardcover book, so that leaves Best Buy and Target as likely suspects to split the remaining titles at 3 each. Fox has informed The Bits that they're NOT going to make the specific details on retailer exclusives available until street date, but we suspect they'll appear on the retailer sites anyway long before then, so do keep your eyes peeled.

Star Trek is about the only other movie franchise I can think of that might last over 50 years. And it's still got a ways to go.

Later in the year, the Oz "franchise" will beat it to the mark.

Nice set, too bad I already own some of them on Blu Ray

There will never be a complete Bond collection but this will always be a complete collection of the first 50 years.

The post you quoted wasn't referring to Bond. I was talking series where an ending is already planned, such as Harry Potter or any franchise really where a box is released after each new film when people know ahead of time another sequel is planned. Shannon Nutt had been complaining earlier about the Bond set not being complete to which I posted the following:

Yeah and at least with Bond which has no clear end in sight it makes sense. I always thought it was fucking dumb to release box sets for movies that will be ending in the near future (like Harry Potter years 1-6 or whatever).

A set like Bond though that has been going on for so many years and continues on with new actors and directors and such that has no end in sight I can totally understand though.

I think you have to put out movies on a consistent basis to qualify for what we're talking about here. The biggest gap between Bond movies is, what? Six years? The biggest gap between Star Trek films is something like four years. Plus there has to be some kind of continuity going on, right? I guess you could say that there's continuity between WIZARD OF OZ, RETURN TO OZ, and OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, but I think you have to really stretch to call it the "Oz franchise". Particularly since the first movie was made by MGM (and I believe Warners owns it now) and the last two are from Disney. Bond only really changed studios because they kept going bankrupt. ;)

Actually, I was wondering why include a space for SKYFALL when it was clearly not the last Bond movie. Then someone (you, I believe) pointed out this was a 50TH ANNIVERSARY set, to which I should have posted (but didn't) "Duh! I'm an idiot!" :)

Actually there was a 7 year gap between Nemesis and Star Trek (2009).

Bond was down for 6 years between 1989 (License to Kill) and 1995 (Goldeneye). Can you believe it's been 4 years since Quantum of Solace? Stupid MGM.

I don't understand why they still have to do big heads for Bond coverart. Does someone really walk into a video store, looks at Dr. No, and doesn't realize that Connery is in it? On second though, don't answer that, because the answer might make me extremely sad.

I would hardly call Oz a franchise.

Good to know, if accurate. From Digitalbits.

We've confirmed with our sources at 20th Century Fox that nearly all special feature content from the previous Special Edition Blu-rays and DVDs will carry over to the new BD releases. The only exceptions are the Mission Control menu-based content from the previous DVDs, many items from Charles de Lauzirika's original 2003 Die Another Day: Special Edition and 5 items from the 2008 Casino Royale: Collector's Edition BD (The Art of the Freerun, Catching a Plane: From Storyboard to Screen, Storyboard Sequence: Freerun Chase, Filmmaker Profiles and Bond Girls Are Forever). So if you have those discs and want to retain all the bonus content, definitely keep them.

And I'm gunning for the box set, but this is just plain stupid.

We've also confirmed that the 11 classic Bond titles previously released on Blu-ray will be available widely again on 10/2, the same day as the box set. We already know that Walmart will have 3 of the never-before-released titles as BD exclusives that day: Diamonds Are Forever, Octopussy and GoldenEye. We've now OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED exactly what we suspected, which is that Best Buy will have On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me as BD exclusives on 10/2, and Target will have A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights and Tomorrow Never Dies as BD exclusives.

Well, can't say I'm thrilled about store exclusives, but at least I have the option of just upgrading the ones I want in HD this year, rather than waiting more months for single releases, or breaking down and buying the box.

Re: James Bond Update

I am glad they are releasing them individually. I already pre-ordered Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger from amazon.com since I never picked up the original releases. I might get Live And Let Die since Jane Seymore is gorgeous in it. Now if only we could get single releases for Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, Jurassic Park, Hitchcock, Universal Monsters, etc.

DVD Empire has the Bond set for $179.99 (40% off). If they still have monthly coupons, that would really sweeten the deal.

Amazon UK has all the review on their page. All are Region free except for Quantum of Solace which is Region B.

And this is interesting. Someone mentioned that there are some extras missing?

Do you have the link to where it talks about region coding? I can't seem to find it. It's ridiculously annoying that only ONE of them is not region free...

At this point, it'd still be cheaper to just buy an individual release of QoS to replace it with.

I'm guessing it may be because all the other discs got a re-issuing, but since Quantum was the most recent Bond, they didn't bother? Just a guess...I wonder if they just put a new label on the disc that's already in release (I guess we'll know if the menus are the same or match the others).

My guess is they will not even have bothered with a new label.

That's funny. The GoldenEye one is the only one I don't like. The rest look unique. The GoldenEye shot looks like it's taken from some lame photoshoot.

I really dig the On Her Majesty's Secret Service cover...

The discription for Disc 23 (1 hour of bonus material) does not say what Region it is.
