So we're supposed to throw away our SKYFALL box and put the disc in here? I don't think so...and what if SKYFALL is a 2-disc release? Also seems silly since SKYFALL will certainly NOT be the final James Bond movie (and not even the final one with Daniel Craig).

Why not? I'm all for uniformity and space saving.

and what if SKYFALL is a 2-disc release?
That could be a complication, although perhaps MGM isn't sure at this point whether Skyfall will be a two-disc set.

Also seems silly since SKYFALL will certainly NOT be the final James Bond movie (and not even the final one with Daniel Craig).
Obviously it won't be, but what's wrong with future-proofing, even if only for one release? If MGM didn't include a Skyfall slot, people would be bitching about the lack of a Skyfall slot.

Well you don't have to throw the Skyfall case away if you don't want obviously it's up to you. I guess it just seems like a nice option they included the space in case people do want to put their disc there. Also obviously yes the box won't be complete as long as Bond films keep being made. What do you expect them to do though keep releasing a new box every time a new film is released? At least this way the box is current through the 50th Anniversary.

This box set celebrates the first 50 years of the Bond movie franchise, which covers Dr. No to Skyfall.

If the first three are released indivdually I will be all over them. If not oh well. I am not buying that box set. I refuse to have to buy Moonraker.

I don't care what the box looks like, as long as it's not a giant book containing 21 other movies.

Judging by the photos, that is exactly what it appears to be.

I think you've missed a couple of steps in the conversation, sir.

Re: James Bond Update

I was pretty confident some retailer would be selling singles of the remaining titles as an exclusive deal.
The only ones I want are TLD, TSWLM, and OHMSS- though if they are easy to snag and only around $12, I could be tempted to pick up the remaining Connery ones and maybe Octopussy. Not a fan of any of the Brosnan ones or AVTAK though.

Re: James Bond Update

There's only a handful of the Bond titles I want. Hopefully Walmart will add the rest individually. I guess it's also possible Best Buy could get some of those exclusively.

Re: James Bond Update

Just as an aside, I seem to recall the studio releasing a DVD box several years ago with an empty spot for the upcoming The World is Not Enough and the franchise was not considered to be dying at that point either.

Studios release "complete" box sets of ongoing franchises all the time. That they're including a space for Skyfall is preferable to the alternative.

Yeah and at least with Bond which has no clear end in sight it makes sense. I always thought it was fucking dumb to release box sets for movies that will be ending in the near future (like Harry Potter years 1-6 or whatever).

Re: James Bond Update

I know they are easily available used but it doesn't make much business sense to not be able to buy Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace by themselves. I am sure there will be new interest in them once Skyfall comes out and most people (including myself) are not going to buy a $200 box set to get them.

Packaging existing discs in a new box and selling them is not stupid. People buy them all the time. The studios get to sell off excess stock in box sets to people who don't care if their collection 'matches'.

They both seem pretty readily available new?

Okay, I should say I personally think it's stupid to buy a set like that when if you wait just a little longer you could have a complete set rather than a partial set. I just don't see the point, it's like if you've waited that long already why not just wait a bit longer for the full set to be out? I can understand why the studios do it though. I suppose most people aren't as OCD about stuff like this. Usually for series though I just buy them individually as they come out personally so it's not normally an issue.

It works for people who are just getting into a series and want to catch up quickly.

Individual title covers. All these years and they opt for Photoshop art. Lame.

I kind of dig the GoldenEye one...the others are average though

There's a slot in the book for Skyfall.

There will never be a complete Bond collection but this will always be a complete collection of the first 50 years.

Re: James Bond Update

And frankly, Bond is probably one of the few franchises who may never really be over. So will we ever see a totally complete set? Unlikely.
