Re: James Bond Update
I was pretty confident some retailer would be selling singles of the remaining titles as an exclusive deal.
The only ones I want are TLD, TSWLM, and OHMSS- though if they are easy to snag and only around $12, I could be tempted to pick up the remaining Connery ones and maybe Octopussy. Not a fan of any of the Brosnan ones or AVTAK though. |
Re: James Bond Update
There's only a handful of the Bond titles I want. Hopefully Walmart will add the rest individually. I guess it's also possible Best Buy could get some of those exclusively.

Re: James Bond Update
Just as an aside, I seem to recall the studio releasing a DVD box several years ago with an empty spot for the upcoming The World is Not Enough and the franchise was not considered to be dying at that point either.
Studios release "complete" box sets of ongoing franchises all the time. That they're including a space for Skyfall is preferable to the alternative. |

Re: James Bond Update
I know they are easily available used but it doesn't make much business sense to not be able to buy Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace by themselves. I am sure there will be new interest in them once Skyfall comes out and most people (including myself) are not going to buy a $200 box set to get them.

Yeah and at least with Bond which has no clear end in sight it makes sense. I always thought it was fucking dumb to release box sets for movies that will be ending in the near future (like Harry Potter years 1-6 or whatever).

Packaging existing discs in a new box and selling them is not stupid. People buy them all the time. The studios get to sell off excess stock in box sets to people who don't care if their collection 'matches'.

Re: James Bond Update
It works for people who are just getting into a series and want to catch up quickly.

Okay, I should say I personally think it's stupid to buy a set like that when if you wait just a little longer you could have a complete set rather than a partial set. I just don't see the point, it's like if you've waited that long already why not just wait a bit longer for the full set to be out? I can understand why the studios do it though. I suppose most people aren't as OCD about stuff like this. Usually for series though I just buy them individually as they come out personally so it's not normally an issue.
There will never be a complete Bond collection but this will always be a complete collection of the first 50 years. |
Re: James Bond Update
And frankly, Bond is probably one of the few franchises who may never really be over. So will we ever see a totally complete set? Unlikely.

Re: James Bond Update
I can wait to buy 50 Years of Bond v.2 in 2062 on 3D Holograph-Space-ray

We know from their own website that Walmart will have GoldenEye, Octopussy and Diamonds Are Forever. That leaves You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights and Tomorrow Never Dies. Amazon already has an exclusive version of the Bond 50 box set that comes with a bonus hardcover book, so that leaves Best Buy and Target as likely suspects to split the remaining titles at 3 each. Fox has informed The Bits that they're NOT going to make the specific details on retailer exclusives available until street date, but we suspect they'll appear on the retailer sites anyway long before then, so do keep your eyes peeled. |

Re: James Bond Update
I don't understand why they still have to do big heads for Bond coverart. Does someone really walk into a video store, looks at Dr. No, and doesn't realize that Connery is in it? On second though, don't answer that, because the answer might make me extremely sad.

I'm glad we're getting separate releases.

Re: James Bond Update
The only Bond film i ever seen is casino royale and, i really enjoyed it. As far as the rest i never seen them. wow this set does looks amazing and, i'm tempted in getting it. Even if its a blind buy for me.

Re: James Bond Update
Good to know, if accurate. From Digitalbits.
We've confirmed with our sources at 20th Century Fox that nearly all special feature content from the previous Special Edition Blu-rays and DVDs will carry over to the new BD releases. The only exceptions are the Mission Control menu-based content from the previous DVDs, many items from Charles de Lauzirika's original 2003 Die Another Day: Special Edition and 5 items from the 2008 Casino Royale: Collector's Edition BD (The Art of the Freerun, Catching a Plane: From Storyboard to Screen, Storyboard Sequence: Freerun Chase, Filmmaker Profiles and Bond Girls Are Forever). So if you have those discs and want to retain all the bonus content, definitely keep them. And I'm gunning for the box set, but this is just plain stupid. We've also confirmed that the 11 classic Bond titles previously released on Blu-ray will be available widely again on 10/2, the same day as the box set. We already know that Walmart will have 3 of the never-before-released titles as BD exclusives that day: Diamonds Are Forever, Octopussy and GoldenEye. We've now OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED exactly what we suspected, which is that Best Buy will have On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me as BD exclusives on 10/2, and Target will have A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights and Tomorrow Never Dies as BD exclusives. |
Re: James Bond Update
Well, can't say I'm thrilled about store exclusives, but at least I have the option of just upgrading the ones I want in HD this year, rather than waiting more months for single releases, or breaking down and buying the box.
|
Re: James Bond Update
I am glad they are releasing them individually. I already pre-ordered Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger from amazon.com since I never picked up the original releases. I might get Live And Let Die since Jane Seymore is gorgeous in it. Now if only we could get single releases for Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, Jurassic Park, Hitchcock, Universal Monsters, etc.

Re: James Bond Update
DVD Empire has the Bond set for $179.99 (40% off). If they still have monthly coupons, that would really sweeten the deal.

Amazon UK has all the review on their page. All are Region free except for Quantum of Solace which is Region B.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/James-Bond-F...6700158&sr=8-3 And this is interesting. Someone mentioned that there are some extras missing? http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.ph...postcount=1641 |

http://www.amazon.co.uk/James-Bond-F...6716635&sr=1-2 If you scroll down, there are a list of all the movies. All the Blu-ray are Region Free except Disc 22. (I didn't want to copy all of them. It on Amazon UK) Disc 22--Quantum of Solace (Over one hour of content) Two featurettes. "Another Way to Die" music video performed by Alicia Keys and Jack White. Original theatrical trailers. Offers English audio description, German, Spanish and Italian language dubbing and German, Castilian, Italian, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles. 101 minutes run time. 2:40 aspect ratio. Letterboxed format. Region B only. I am hoping its a mistake from Amazon. |
Re: James Bond Update
At this point, it'd still be cheaper to just buy an individual release of QoS to replace it with.

That's funny. The GoldenEye one is the only one I don't like. The rest look unique. The GoldenEye shot looks like it's taken from some lame photoshoot. I really dig the On Her Majesty's Secret Service cover... |
