Re: James Bond Update

I just checked Amazon UK to find the blu box is no longer up for pre-sale. They must have realized their error and pulled it before they had to give away more of them at the ridiculous price of 79 pounds sterling + a mere 3 for shipping (about $116.00 U.S. the day I calculated). I am quite sure in the description it did say Region: B/2. In any case, those of us lucky enough to have gotten this set before they yanked it should perhaps hold on to it until the last possible minute to cancel. At $5.28 per title, it would even be cost effective to purchase an inexpensive region-free Blu-ray player.

Their listings almost always have region B/2 written, even in the case of region-free releases. There's still a chance it might end up region-free.

This is great news that they are finally putting out the ones I don't own, but I hope they sell them individually. Otherwise I will have to go to the bother to sell the ones I already have and lose money :(

Everyone think it's safe to assume that the Blu-rays of the already-released Bonds will be the same in this boxed set?

I'm dreading getting rid of my current discs only to find out half the bonus features have been removed or (worse) the transfers aren't as good.

I think it's very likely that the discs will be made from the same pressing masters, but whether or not that's the case, I can pretty much guarantee you that the transfers will be the same.

I've been checking that listing for days and never saw it disappear. Still there, at around £78 after VAT.

For a few hours it was a "sign up to be notified" listing.

The previous Bond Blu-rays were locked to each territory, despite being distributed by Fox worldwide. Fox is a region coding happy studio.

Also, the UK Blu-rays of some of the early Bond titles did not contain the original mono soundtracks, which are present on the North American editions.

FAIRLY confident. lol.

The real question is if these are new discs or a repackaging. But we wont know that for a while.

Those who haven't ordered the set yet should check their Gold Box today - it showed up in mine for $189.99.

Yes, but in the past I've noticed that pre-releases often appear initially in Gold Boxes on the same day for several people.

I was able to get about $60 for my Bond Blu-rays trading them in to Amazon (some were still in shrink wrap, so I was able to use the "new" option on many of them)...not great, but not bad considering they're all selling for under $10 these days.

I went to a concert of Bond music the other day and thought of this thread. I think I have only five of the BDs so far but will hold off on further purchases till I see how this set shakes out.

So, what are the chances that these will be re-released individually? And at the same time, match up (though no deal breaker) with the previous Bond releases?

I'm sure they will be...but probably not until at least a year after the boxed set...or around the time SKYFALL comes to Blu-ray.

As for packaging, that's anyone's guess.

Re: James Bond Update

Wow, so the special features that were created for a special edition of QOS are NOT a part of this set? WTF? Mark Forester confirmed he had recorded a commentary track for the film and that a more loaded disc would be out at some point.

Some more points.
1. I wonder if the discs debuting on Blu are going to have the "Inside" documentaries recreated in HD like the other films have.

2. I really wish they would have done new "Inside" documentaries for the Brosnan era. Enough time has passed to do a proper retrospective look back with new interviews. Hopefully a narration by Macnee before it's too late (he's getting up there at 90).

3. EON spend some money and get Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan do commentary on their films. Seriously? If they are up for it, Let them have their say. Every year that passes is a lost opportunity. How much longer do you expect some of these guys to keep on living? Brosnan is the youngest and will be 60 next year, Connery is 81!

Hell, I'd settle for individual documentaries on each of the Bonds to talk about their time spent on these films. Of course, Lazenby would probably be just a featurrette.

Likewise on Casino Royale.

IIRC, though, the Blu-Rays that were released did fix issues that were on the 2-Disc DVDs, so it wouldn't surprise me if they did fix the misframing...

This just doesn't make any sense to include the lackluster special features for the final two films and then have a brand new disc of bonus content. Wasn't the purpose of this box to be the definitive collection?

Even if they'd done it right, it would only be "definitive" until Skyfall comes out, anyway.

Unless the set has a spot already planned so we can fit Skyfall in. But even then, the next Bond will end the "definitive" moniker.

Yeah, it's really odd that they wouldn't include everything from that Casino Royale special edition. I sold mine already, but I can live without those extras. Maybe much of the footage has been incorporated in the new bonus materials? Who knows.

Yes, that's the single-disc first release. I guess we can assume all the transfers are the same too (minus the new-to-Blu-ray ones, of course).

Same here. I already sold my copy as well. I tend to always say I want the extras but then never actually get around to watching them (on almost every movie I own). I'll live.

Re: James Bond Update

I'm holding onto my Casino Royale 2-disc. Not just for the extras, but the sound mix as well. I always thought the PCM audio from the original 1-disc release was a little muddled with the dialogue. The TrueHD track that was mixed on the 2-disc set always sounded better to me, particularly the dialogue. Definitely was more clear and full. I'm guessing they'll be provided a DTS mix for this new release.
