You're supposed to discard that disc and use the slot to hold your Never Say Never Again Blu-ray instead.

I can't say I've been a big fan of this book-style packaging that appears to be the latest trend with this set and the Indiana Jones collection. It looks nice, but I think I need a tutorial on how to get these discs out without scratches or fingerprint smudges.

Makes me want to apologize for all the nasty things I said about the original Back to the Future packaging.

Not my favorite either. I came close to picking up the previously released titles off ebay just to have them in regular cases. Found a few people dumping their full sets pretty cheaply, and was going to follow up by buying most of the forthcoming retailer exclusives.

But no matter how I worked it, the price per disc of the boxed set was still cheaper. So I'm going to get that. It does seem these Fox sets give a bit more room to get the disc out compared to sets like Indiana Jones.

I hear one of the extras from one of the Casino Royal releases is missing - I'd like to know what else is missing, and if there's any new stuff.
Missing from the new Casino Royale disc (but present on Collector's Edition BD and DVD sets): The Art of the Freerun, Catching a Plane: From Storyboard to Screen, Storyboard Sequence: Freerun Chase, Filmmaker Profiles and Bond Girls Are Forever.

Source: HERE

The above link also discusses the other deleted Bond extras.

EDIT: Only "new stuff" appears to be what's on the 23rd disc, and a decent chunk of that is the movie title sequences in a montage.

I did the exact same thing you did, not realizing they had taken the free book off the listing for the set. Mine just got delievered today, so I won't know until I get home if I got the book or not.

Re: James Bond Update

I do recall that I actually placed the new order THEN canceled the original order. That might have had an effect (or it might not, who knows what happens in Amazon's warehouses).

Re: James Bond Update

Got mine from Amazon today and it had the free book excerpt. Very nice looking but I had already ordered the full size book. Gonna give the excerpt version to my Dad since he bought his set from BB.

I had pre-ordered my copy from Amazon way back when the set was first announced and then canceled at the end of last week before they price-matched BB. I then placed a new order a couple of days later and still got the book so maybe most people who pre-ordered will still receive the book. It is a good looking book and was a lot larger (page and size-wise) than I was expecting.

I fucking love the packaging design on this set. I know many don't like the "book" type packaging but it doesn't bother me. Be careful when pulling out your discs and you will have no problem with these kinds of sets. I love how they have the year and the bond girl for each flick. And the black, sleek look is great. Extremely happy. And if the bonus disc sucks, I will put my copy of Never Say Never Again in there.

Goes well my Bond wall!

Re: James Bond Update

Anybody interested in a James Bond ultimate viewing thread which leads up to Skyfall? I just did the numbers and it would be tough but it would be approx a movie every two days.

I can't say I'd respond to every movie, but I'd be up for it as much as I can.

I did chuckle at that Bond wall brianluv, but it's actually pretty cool. Reminds me of something I had when I was a kid. Only went up through the Roger Moore films though.

Re: James Bond Update

A Target worker on CAG confirmed their exclusive Bond titles:

A View to a Kill (058-37-0713), Tomorrow Never Dies (058-37-0712) and Licence to Kill (058-37-0715) are all 9.99.
Walmart.com has had their 3 listed for awhile, but Bestbuy.com still doesn't have their titles listed.

Yep, I got the Movie Poster book too - so I guess it didn't matter - Amazon must have had a ton of them.

The Bond plates are something my Dad bought years ago and then they moved and he ran out of room to display them so he gave them to me. I don 't know if they ever did an entire set for all the movies or not. He is a big fan of the Sean Connery films that those were the only ones he bought. They are heavy ceramic and the artwork is quite detailed. I just got the updated checklist poster in the last couple of weeks to replace the old one I had that only went up to Tomorrow Never Dies.

My buddy and I are planning on recording fan commentaries for all the films, including Skyfall when it hits Blu-ray. This will take much longer than one movie every two days, though, haha.

I thought about a JB marathon but then I forgot about the Horror challenge. I don't follow all the rules of the challenge but I do personally watch all horror during the month of October and this would seriously take up a lot of horror time. I may start and viewing thread in November.

Re: James Bond Update

Does anyone know how much of the Sony Pictures Casino Royale Deluxe edition DVD was ported over to the BD in this set? I'm still hanging on to that DVD just in case some of the stuff didn't make it over.

It sucks that the Quantum of Solace extras are exactly the same as the previous release. I own the previous 2-disc DVD release. I wish they would have added a Foster commentary and a more extensive Making Of documentary.

I'd be up for that. I thought about just watching the ones that were not released previously on Blu for now, but I may as well watch them all.

You may want to hold on to your 2 disc set as well then. I just popped the box set disc in and the following extras are cut from from the 2 disc set.

  • Bond Girls Are Forever
  • The Art of the Freerun
  • Catching A Plane: From Storyboard to Screen
  • Storyboard Sequence
  • Freerun Chase
  • Filmmaker Profiles

Got the set from amazon today. Excerpted book was also included, despite the fact that I just ordered this week.

Re: James Bond Update

Because is would make too much FUCKING SENSE to have something like this as an extra on the Bond set. FUCK. Documentary called Everything or Nothing. Premiering Oct. 5th on EPIX.

Re: James Bond Update

Damnit!! I can't see the documentary since I don't get EPIX. I wonder if it will get posted to Netflix or Amazon Prime since they have a deal with EPIX.

I guess it's possible the documentary could end up on the SkyFall BD next year.

IIRC, the deal between Amazon/Netflix and EPIX is usually a 30-day (or 60-day) turn-around time. It should be up in time, hopefully, for Skyfall's US theatrical release.

Re: James Bond Update

I have the original DVD sets of the bond flicks, and the only blu bond I had was quantum.. so upgrading was a no-brainer. I just watched Dr. NO... and wow. I am now really glad I picked this set up. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
