Previous recent MGMs have been complete, but if I see any copies to confirm, I'll post in here.

Thanks.

It does. The cover is the same art and is still called the Extra-Curricular Edition.

Random thoughts on some of this week's Best Buy exclusives:

Random thoughts on some of this week's Best Buy exclusives:
  • The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
The fact that's anamorphic is plus. A couple of inconsequential scenes show some vertical scratches (one likely inherent to the original filming), but overall it's really limited to white flecks and dirt. Solid grain structure for 70s film stock (and low light filming); colors naturally muted, but what limited colors do pop, like Mr. Blue's hat and under-collar. Not as compressed and crushed as the Netflix Watch Instantly file. Fans will be pleased, a very solid presentation for its age.

    Trailer in HD is included.

• Maverick
Donner has a tendency to shoot soft; combine that with the "star-filter" treatment Foster and Gibson get in close-ups, the overall image doesn't lend itself to fine detail. That said, color is good and grain is consistent. Considering the compression issues and edge enhancement of the, what 13-, 14-year-old DVD, this is an improvement.

SD Extras like the EPK materials, music video and trailer have been ported over. They looked like they we're originally ripped from VHS — which is probably true.

• Get Shorty
Clearly an old master pulled off the shelf. When compared to the DVD, edge detail is better. But personally I was disappointed, but I think I was hoping for better. Colors are muted and it feels flat. There may be some occasional scene-to-scene DNR, but it could also just be Travolta's pancake make-up. Fine detail shows up in a handful of scenes. The end result is film that looks older than it should.

SD Extras from the two-disc DVD have been ported over.

• Casino Royale (1967)
Not unpleasant, not amazing either. No real fine detail, but no real manipulation. Soundtrack is clean (thankfully for the Tijuana Brass horns) and the colors suitably pop, without flaring.

Listed as the Collector's Edition, so SD extras from the last 40th Anniversary DVD, minus the stills gallery, are present. Trailer is in HD

• Back to School
Colors are good for cheap 80s comedy and the image is stable (even the optical titles). It just feels like there is excessive grain here (Pelham has less grain and it has more low-light situations), bordering on noise. A marginal to non-essential upgrade.

Listed as the Extra Curricular Edition, the extras from the last DVD edition have been ported over.

Haven't gone through ESPN 30 for 30 set yet.

Not sure if this was mentioned already (no time to scroll through all of the posts) but I just bought Mao's Last Dancer at Target for about $15.00. It's supposed to be released later in July on Amazon, but it had a Target Exclusive sticker on it and was cheap.

Yeah, there's a list in the first post and I've got that one on there.

Anyone know if there's any evidence on Casino Royale that it's exclusive so I can add it to the list?

It's exclusive. Not available for review (since it's not "officially" out).

Added Casino Royale, the Kubricks (good catch, I'd known but forgotten to add them), and 30 for 30.

Anyone who hasn't already bought Lolita should be aware that The Digital Bits just reported a 50th Anniversary Special Edition is in the works for 2012 (as well as a Full Metal Jacket 25th Anniversary Edition, for those considering the whole Kubrick set).

On the subject of CR, the 1954 version is available for stream on Netflix. I had no idea there was a third one.

What was the price on that? Only the Digibook is on their site for $24.96.

Thanks for the info BSTNFAN. If it's 19.96 or less it's mine. I'm not paying a premium for the book.
