How about both cuts of the first movie? The theatrical cut is superior to the bloated Director's Cut. I'd like all of the original sound effects returned as well.
Gah! Somebody wants Superman Returns to be longer?

Unless there's some sort of picture and/or sound restoration done here, I'll be passing.

I must be the only one who never bought the DVD set. I hadn't even seen Superman until last year, and it's the only one of the original four I've seen.

SUPERMAN RETURNS has polarized fans, despite some very impressive reviews. You either love it or hate it.
SUPERMAN II is well-worth watching, while SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT is a good supplement to what-might-have been if the original director remained on the project.
SUPERMAN was remastered as an extended cut, with some missing and/or replaced sound effects, as well as some interesting and not-so-interesting additional footage. All of the other extraneous footage shown on KCOP and initial ABC-TV showings remains unavailable on DVD.

I liked Returns. Then again, I also like Superman III.
I suppose the third movie has a bit of the same thing going as Batman Forever does; "You thought the third movie was bad? Wait till you see the fourth!".
Really tho, apart from Richard Pryor's ridicilous slapstick antics in number three (but hey, Office Space paid homage to this film!), I quite enjoyed the factory fire scene as well as the scenes with Clark Kent and Lana Lang in Smallville. And then there's the Evil Supes/Good Clark fight...

Yeah the whole return to Krypton sequence would be very nice to get to see put back in the film.

With all the problems with the first movie on the dvd set not having the original stereo track, I wonder if it will be included here. Probably not, since blu-ray doesn't really care about the original audio formats of movies. It's all fancy 5.1 surround for some reason. Not everyone has a surround system.

S:TM is a beloved film for me. Always has been, always will be. II was a big disappointment given the sure-fire premise and set up in the first film. And the Donner cut is really only viable as an intersting supplement- not as a complete & satisfying piece unto itself. Have never valued III or IV and had no use for Returns (beyond the nifty shuttle rescue) so really the MAJOR draw for me in this set is the Fleischer 'toons, the theatrical cut of STM and Lesters II (in that order). Also after watching a bit of STM a few weeks back- this really needs to be remastered. That was a pre 2006 era master (probably 2001), and similar shots (b roll?) used in the Donner cut (mastered in 2006) are detecable as better looking on my set up.
If Warner doesn't max out a 50 gb DL disc for the first film at least, I'll be very disappointed.

I said "original four". I really enjoyed Returns, with the exception of Super-Kid and the failure to get around how boring and predictable Kryptonite is.

The only way I would upgrade this from the DVD set is if they made it a dvd2blu title........................which I don't think is very likely.

I feel the same way about a longer cut of SR the way I feel about the longer cut of David Lynch's Dune. As much as I enjoy the theatrical cut of something like Dune, it's still somewhat lacking and the added footage helps move it beyond just a movie and more towards an immersive experience. I don't watch the theatrical cut of Dune anymore and I'd probably do the same for SR.
Even having the extra footage for something like Star Trek Nemesis could do it a favor and help salvage something from the whole experience.

all I know is...when Supes starts fighting some robotic nurse or whatever the fuck happened there...my 8 yr. old self finally knew wtf a bad movie was. Never before did I have that issue..until Superman 3. Pryor wasn't funny to me. I was bored by everything...and how the fuck am I supposed to be happy about a robotic nurse fighting Supes?

It wasn't that bad. The Clark vs Evil Superman fight was great. Complete with corny dialogue.
"You always wanted to be fly, Kent. Now here's your chance!"
As for IV, yeah pretty bad. But one thing always bothered me. Superman goes to all that trouble in part II (whether it was the ridiculous "Super kiss" or the turning the world back) to make Lois forget who he is only to tell her again.

If the Matrix set was any indication, then the blu-ray set should have at least what was on the dvd set. There may even be new stuff, too.

Looks like it may be movies only... Not a BR replacement of the Ultimate Collector's Edition... We will have to wait and see....

I have thus far resisted any of the Superman Blus with the intention of waiting for this box set. On DVD I've got the Christopher Reeve Collection box, Superman Returns 2-disc, the Donner cut of Superman II and the Look, Up in the Sky! doc. I'm hopeful that, at the very least, this box contains all of the material found on those releases, freeing me up to trade in the DVDs. (And in a perfect world, it would also include Supergirl.)
