Geez, and I can't believe Dwayne McDuffie (who wrote the adaptation) died the day this came out. Supposedly he said it's his favorite of the animated work he's ever done too.

That is simply crazy talk. A great adaptation of very strong source material, in this case Grant Morrison's comic book "All-Star Superman." The story is actually much closer in spirit to the Superman featured in comics than any of the movie or television adaptations.

I gotta say that I dug the animation style too, but wasn't too keen on the storyline. I'd say this was about average, to slightly above average imo.

I also liked the animation but didn't like the storyline. I had already read the comic and didn't really like it that much, but I was hoping they would improve it a little bit with this version. I did like it a little better but I still though the story was below average at best. I'm not sure why people like this storyline so much.

Re: All-Star Superman — 02/22/11
I know I'm in the minority here, but I absolutely HATED the All-Star Superman and All-Star Batman comics. I'm a comic book fan and have nearly every book that Superman and Batman have ever appeared in over the last 30+ years. The two All-Star books were the first titles of Batman and/or Superman that I hesitantly (but ultimately) dropped from my subscription list. I absolutely hated Morrison's writing on All-Star Superman and Miller's writing on All-Star Batman. I'm not a fan of the 'camp' era of comics and that's what the All-Star Superman book was to me.
With that said... I thought the animation on this movie was good, but I just can't stand the story. I bought the blu-ray because I am a DC fanboy and own all of the other DC related videos, but I can honestly say I'll never watch this one again!!
To those that LOVE this movie (and the book it's based on) you are entitled to your opinions and I totally respect it. As I stated already, I realize I'm in the minority here, but I find the story one of the most stupid Superman stories I've ever read or seen in animated form. I can appreciate some of Morrison's and Miller's books, but just found their "All Star" titles to be horrible.

Would you be interested in trading away this blu-ray for something in my trade list that you may possible watch more than once?

Kind of like collecting really bad 'direct to video' sequels to movies I like. I don't really need/want them, but most of the time I'll buy them to 'complete' the collection.
