I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum, but I am trying to both start or find the most comprehensive list of hard to find, limited, exclusive to, different packaged (i.e. steelbook), gift/box, exclusive features, or just limited in print blu-rays since blu-ray's inception (pun intended). So basically any and all that exist I am trying to log but only genuine Region A US and Canada BR and briefly describe or post a pic (front & back) of what's so damn special about 'em.

I don't understand why Black Dynamite is on the list. It's not OOP, and seems to be in stock everywhere.

Those are rare? I mean, uncommon, sure. But when they barely sell for more than their MSRP I'm not sure how 'rare' they are. Might as well just call this rare 'Steelbooks' thread.

The thread title doesn't quite match what is in the OP (which includes exclusives and different packaging).

So...with that said...I will throw in the Alien Anthology Egg set.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

This is more like a limited packaging thread. From what I can tell, every single movie on that list can still be easily purchased on Blu-ray. If you want to talk legit oop stuff, there are a handful of Criterions that qualify.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is Out of Print. I got a copy for less than $10 though when it was in print, so I'm not complaining for myself.

I have some Imports which are Region A and are probably rare -- at least in the US and Canada -- Do those count? I have the Chinese Odyssey films starring Stephen Chow.

I would also like to note that I agree with other posters who don't consider the bulk of what you listed as being rare or extremely limited when so many are easy to find as it is.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

Like I said, a list that shows every SPECIAL EDITION which in turn should make them harder to find even if it's only slightly harder which in turn makes them rarer then say their regular bare bones edition or mass produced disc i.e. Hurt Locker on BR or Hurt Locker Steelbook on BR. It can be because of the packaging, the features or simply the number of prints. I work in the industry, but getting a hold of every variant or limited print SKU is hard. Also it's not about being just hard to find, that wasn't my thread. Deffinitely Odyssey is rare, but I want a list that in time the above mentioned will become rare or oop, blu-ray is still relatively new thats obvious thats why most of these are not rare yet, but they are harder to find like I said. So again it's not just about rare as blu-ray is still bountiful in most of it's printing, i just want Special Edition, Limited Packaging, Features not found on a previous Edition or DVD, and yes Rare in print.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

What you want seems to be all over the place and your thread title is misleading. I assume that English is not your first language? Anyway, from what I can gather you just want a list of BDs that have more than one version of the same film? On top of that, you also want to list BDs that have different features than their DVD counterparts? That's going to be a very long list.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

The only ones that I'd say are definitively rare or at least in enough demand to increase in value after stock ran out were:

Akira first printing with slipcover and booklet
The Hurt Locker Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook
The Best Buy Exclusive Pixar Steelbooks: A Bug's Life, Ratatouille, Cars, Monsters Inc., Up, WALL-E (Up being the most popular)
Zombieland - The Nut Up or Shut Up Edition

Yes that is what I want... and English is my only language which has nothing to do with the thread. I started at 5 in the morning so I was a bit out of it. It will be a long list, but with BR being a newer format, i figured there would be a chance to actually track all the BR with more than one version and that have exclusive features and if there any that someone would actually label "Rare" those too. For me, rare is defined by limited print.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

Another packaging thread, apart from the contributions from the other posters.
In my strong opinion cardboard gatefolds and steel books are like the bag you bring it home from the store in.
OOP titles missing non-fluff booklets (Akira), discs, and other real content (repressed discs missing content) are the real limited editions and rareties.

How about Evil Dead?
The initial special edition included a special features DVD, but that went OOP(?) and current stock comes with the BD only.

Definitely Evil Dead! I agree with Steelbook and slipcovers case, however COLLECTORS want that stuff. The best way I can easily convey what i'm going after is ANYTHING that sets a copy apart from the same titled copy in the form of features, physical packaging (including booklets), bonus discs (setting itself apart from an everyday version of the film) or just simply LIMITED IN PRINT.

Re: Most limited and rarest Region A Blu-Rays

Oh and there are hundreds of Japanese region A release that came out as limited editions including CD soundtracks. They are now only available without the CD.

But that is a can of worms eh?

The Evil Dead blu that just came out 2 months ago is already OOP in it's initial release? I'm pretty sure I bought it with the 2nd disc. I got it months ago.

The first pressing is called a "Limited Edition" and comes with a Blu-Ray with the movie and new commentary and a DVD with most of the extras from the Ultimate Edition 3-Disc DVD. While I wouldn't exactly call it hard-to-find yet, in many places (since it was so cheap) the LE is already gone and has since been restocked with the Blu-Ray only 2nd pressing. However, if you go to the stores where it wasn't on sale (like, say, a Barnes & Noble or a Borders), you'll probably find copies with the 2nd disc still available.
