Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Figures, I picked up the existing Blu just a few weeks ago. No word on specs, although The Digital Bits says it will include new extras. Here is the artwork:

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
New extras? I would think the only new extra is the DVD. The first release has quite a bit, what more would they add?
|
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
The audio, which was way too low on the existing Blu, needs to get improved.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Volume is at a low level, but it's a very good audio track. Not sure they would go back and remaster the audio, since the PQ is already pretty damn good.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
You know wtf I'd want. A Robert De Niro commentary track w/ Scorsese. Don't leave De Niro alone though...he might just...be quiet a lot. I dunno why..but I imagine De Niro would be mum a good chunk of the time.
Gimme a De Niro/Scorsese track. |
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Pains me DeNiro would do commentary for the dumb ass Focker movies, but not one damn Scorsese movie.

Didn't the BD have all the extras from the SE DVD, which was pretty packed? I've wanted to buy this fucker on BD. Remember it being at $8.99 at some point at Amazon too....

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Wasn't there a pic issue, some kind of vertical stripe that could be seen depending on your tv's brightness level? Would be nice to get a nice a new transfer but I certainly would not expect it. At least these combo's are almost always pretty cheap...

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
I remember someone here commenting on it. I think they even made a thread about it.

Any chance this will be a digibook?

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Gimme a f'n break ..already starting on the double dips with BluRays now? I just picked this up a few months ago. As much as I like this movie no way am I double dipping. Already bought the 2 disc DVD, then bought the Blue. They should start getting it right the first time.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
So it looks like this new release will have just under an hour of new bonus features. From blu-ray.com:
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5586 Raging Bull 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Announced Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, in conjunction with MGM Home Entertainment, has announced Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on January 11, 2011, in a BD/DVD combo. This Martin Scorsese movie had already been released on Blu-ray in 2009. This new edition boasts over 50 minutes of brand-new features. Special features include: * Commentaries (on the DVD): * Director Martin Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker * Cast and crew * Storytellers * Marty & Bobby (new) * Raging Bull: Reflections on a Classic (new) * Remembering Jake (new) * Marty on Film (new) * Cathy Moriarty on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, March 27, 1981 (new) * Raging Bull: Fight Night * The Bronx Bull * DeNiro vs. LaMotta * LaMotta Defends Title No mention of any remastered picture or audio, just those few additional extras. |
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
This is a top 20 title for me.
A new transfer = immediate pre-order. No new transfer = no purchase. |
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Why did they even release the original version in 2009? Why not just wait and make this the debut? Sort of sad that we're seeing double dips on BD when there are literally thousands and thousands of titles that have never debuted yet.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
The new extras look intriguing, esp the Tonight Show segment.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
BD/DVD combo......ugh...

Dropping the commentaries that are already on the existing blu-ray and bumping them to the DVD so you can't enjoy HD imagery if you want to listen to them - come on!
God, MGM releases are a mess. |

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
I thought it meant that those extras would be the only ones on the DVD, not that they would only be on the DVD. Hopefully I'm right, otherwise, no way in hell I'm double-dipping.
|
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Actually, I'm thinking Kory's explanation makes more sense, that the DVD would be Disc 1 of the 2-disc and therefore includes the commentaries -- but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
I just went through the extras on the existing disc and I'm satisfied that I learned enough about the film from those. I won't be upgrading.
|
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
I don't know if I'll upgrade. I love the film, and I want the extras, but as Noir said, always assume the worst with MGM.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
So any info on how this compares visually to the last blu-ray?

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
Guy on the Blu-Ray forums says the review will be up today. He says it's probably the same transfer but seems to indicate that the problems have been worked on? I didn't realize there was anything wrong with the last release.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
I just picked this up at Wal-Mart and all the extras are on the Blu-Ray, according to the packaging (it looks like the DVD included is the original-original, barebones DVD).
The Blu-Ray.com review remains MIA. |

- 3 Commentaries: Director Martin Scorsese and Editor Thelma Schoonmaker, Cast & Crew, Storytellers - 4 New Featurettes: Marty & Bobby; Raging Bull: Reflections on a Classic; Remembering Jake; Marty on Film - Cathy Moriarty on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, March 27, 1981 - Raging Bull: Fight Night - 4-Part Feature-Length Documentary - The Bronx Bull - Behind-the-Scenes Featurette - De Niro vs. La Motta - Shot-by-Shot Comparison in the Ring - La Motta Defends Title - Vintage Newsreel Footage EDIT: A check of DVDEmpire's back cover for the "Collector's Edition" DVD says this includes everything, but neither make any mention of the trailer. However, the very old MGM release had the trailer. I'm guessing that release was a flipper. If the Fox/MGM single-disc was just the WS side of the flipper, then the trailer is on the DVD (although, the packaging doesn't mention it). |

I don't even see the stripe in the cap he provided. Also, he says the trailer's on the disc, in 1080p to boot. |
Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11
The new extras sound mildly interesting, but not enough for me to double-dip.
